PhD student at Monash University. I use genomics to look into local adaptation and divergence in species with high gene flow. Currently working on marine tubeworms 🪱 {Looking for a postdoc!}

We had a big crew from Loyola at #Evol2026 in Cleveland this past week. So many great talks and poster presentations from our postdocs, grad students, and undergrads across 4 labs @loyolachicago.bsky.social

My first Evolution Meeting 2026 was an amazing experience!🧬 I had the opportunity to present part of my master's research and connect with inspiring researchers. Grateful for this experience!

Excited to be attending #Evol2026! I'll be talking about the genetic basis of local adaptation in the face of high gene flow: it may or may not have something to do with structural variants! Come see my talk next Wednesday at 2.30 pm in the "Adaptation: Inference of Selection" session (room 24)

Economy and ecology are the same word: oikos, the household. One runs it, one reads it. The tragedy of the commons is where the halves grind. Hardin said shared resources are doomed & competition is inherently unstable. A crowded Breton rock full of limpets proves him wrong twice👇 🌊🦑🌍

A Natural History of Limpets, Part 4: The Commons on the Rock
Three species, one crowded rock, and the resource an earlier episode called the scarcest of all. Garrett Hardin predicted ruin here twice. The shore refused him both times.

Words matter. They especially matter when talking about likelihoods. As it turns out we have different ideas what type of likelihood we link with certain descriptors. Source: buff.ly/lsjYx0d

Emily Belcher and co-authors show that embryos achieve robustness by tightly coordinating the relative timing of embryonic events, offering clues to how embryos may withstand contemporary climate change in marine systems. doi.org/10.1098/rsob...

Temperature and the progression of developmental milestones in embryogenesis of a marine ectotherm | Open Biology
Embryos are among the most temperature-sensitive life stages. To survive and produce juvenile stages, embryos must be robust to changes in temperature that also change development time profoundly. Yet...

Was Darwin wrong? Hermaphrodites found to be more energy efficient than animals with two sexes
Hermaphrodites may have an unexpected evolutionary advantage over animals with separate sexes, they use significantly less energy to live.

Darwin speculated that it was energetically costly to be an hermaphrodite. He thought that might explain why they were relatively rare in animals. Our paper out today tested this conjecture for the first time. royalsocietypublishing.org/rspb/article...

Hermaphrodites have lower metabolic rates than gonochores
Abstract. Hermaphroditism, where an individual can reproduce as both male and female, offers some clear reproductive advantages. Simultaneous hermaphroditi

Another cool genome assembly: The first phased, annotated, chromosome-level assembly for a reef-building tubeworm, Galeolaria caespitosa! The species has 11 autosomal chromosomes and no sex chromosomes.
