This class has been very informative and reassuring as to the information needed to have a well rounded diet. As a future PA, I plan to evaluate my patients diet with a fine tooth comb, much like their other clinically relevant data, to come to a diagnosis. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This is a mindset around nutrition that I think is overlooked by diet culture and crash diets that are promoted, especially after the holiday season when people are looking to lose weight.

Me too! I never liked gravy as a kid but now it is one of my favorite parts!

This Thanksgiving I will be looking at the ingredients and nutrition facts on the items that I normally eat without thinking (gravy, cranberry sauce, juice etc.) I am really excited for the Turkey sandwiches I normally make the day after Thanksgiving! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

While I think this is a fun concept for school aged children, I think selecting a healthier option (such as fruit) would send a better nutritional message to kids! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I also selected the same article! I really think this is a great source to look at in terms of medically backed information but verifying the information is easy to follow for new parents and young children regarding their eating habits.

I have selected an article from the Mayo Clinic that I feel is a high quality source for families and children alike to better understand healthy eating habits. The article shows helpful charts and is supported by clinical evidence. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-life...

The threat of food insecurity is one that many Americans face every year. Now more than ever, there needs to be increased support for Americans struggling.

I think that Tom's story is really inspiring and can show that in a non traditional way, they can still loose weight.

After reflecting on Tom's story, it is really important to treat patients at every step in their process. Tom talks about how how his diet was on and off for one summer, committed and then took a break, and struggling to find a diet that was sustainable. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

The cutting of SNAP benefits poses a massive nutritional issue to the country as many children will not have the access to food that they need to live healthily.

After reading this weeks material, a fact about obesity that was interesting to me was included in the study involving former "Biggest Loser" contestants, regarding their metabolic adaptation after the challenge. This is due to adapting to a large caloric deficit. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Mental health is so important for virtually every avenue in life and this includes nutrition. Suffering from mental health disorders will also greatly impact the way one eats. Not supporting this is very upsetting. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

YESSS! OMG same for me. If all of my coworkers are order out but I brought lunch, suddenly my lunch doesn't stand a chance to their Chick-Fil-A order.

The barrier I found most relatable was the "expected consumption of unhealthy foods in certain situations." For me, this applies to my dinner after a long exam day or 12 hour shift. When I come home, my roommate and I are both exhausted and want to indulge in take out. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I 100% agree with the idea that society has this all or nothing mindset and this can really impact patients needs that we might see in a clinical setting. Cutting out a food group completely for example can have consequences. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

The "carnivore diet" was one that peaked my interest. I have seen a few patients actually that have followed this diet and have had a real struggle with digestion as eating only red meat can halt many digestive processes. This diet excludes fruit, vegetables and carbs. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

As someone who was raised in a town with 75% of students on free and reduced lunch, the need for healthy and sustainable options for these students was pronounced in my community. Giving these students unhealthy choices such as chips and Uncrustables, does not demonstrate a healthy diet.

One of my favorite snacks is buffalo chicken dip and chips! However, it is not the most healthy option so recently I stumbled across my new go to recipe. I sub out the cream cheese for cottage cheese(high protein), low carb chip option, and at home grilled chicken. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

My 24 hr food log was very insightful into areas of my diet in which I lack. For example, most days I only eat roughly 2 meals per day. I consumed much less food than I realized when seeing everything written out on paper. An area of improvement would be more fruits/veg #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I think it needs to be talked about and brought to more professionals attention. The idea of children feeling as though they need to lose weight is a huge nutritional crisis for youth. Lets focus on the mental component as well as nutrition! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I was really interested in the role that protein, as a macronutrient, plays in nutrition. I have been guilty of not consuming enough protein, as I don't like red meat but learned that protein is found in more things that I thought! Fun Fact:Eggs, nuts, and greek yogurt #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Improving the health of our society is multilayered. While eating right and moving our bodies is critical to health, accessing healthcare to care for ourselves both inside and out and equally as important!!!

An idea presented in the article from the Fred Hutch Cancer center stood out to me.The article discusses different study methods done and more importantly why they matter. Concluding with discussing causation vs. correlation. The importance of knowing what results indicate in health. @beh353 #beh353
