Hi! I'm Leo, an open-source silicon advocate. This means that I'd like to advance chip design using open-source EDA tools and open-source PDKs. I am one of the […] 🌉 bridged from ⁂ fosstodon.org/@mole99, follow @ap.brid.gy to interact

One of the coolest things to happen in Spade yet 👀 @breakingtaps wrote and taped out a Transport Triggered Architecture processor from scratch in a month with 0 prior experience! This video is also one of the better intros to digital hardware design I've seen, certainly much better than some of […]

I'm finally on my way home from ORConf (I did one more stopover afterwards). It was the greatest (because it was the largest) ORConf yet 😉 Awesome people, interesting talks, and I even presented one about wafer.space. You can check it out here […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]

I got to try the RISC-V board of my friend Hirosh. It includes an open-source Linux-capable RISC-V CPU with MMU! What's special about it is that this SoC has been taped out on the open-source GF180MCU process using wafer.space 🚀 Since we're in different […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]
The image shows that KianV is running Linux 7.1.0, the feature set of the RISC-V CPU and the motd, which shows the wafer.space logo with "KianVLinux" above it.

I'm finally back home after an exciting HeiChips Summer School 2026. heichips.github.io One week filled with loads of enthusiasm and energy for open-source chip design! 🎉 The program includes lectures and workshops, as well as a final two-day […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]

I just got my friend Leo Moser's custom GF180MCU Fabulous FPGA board, produced by WaferSpace. It already has a design loaded, so I'll be playing around with it over the next few days and see what I can build with it. A custom FPGA is just insanely cool. Leo is an absolute legend.

Another project that was originally on TT09: a run length encoded video player, this time with audio! Here it is playing Bad Apple, audio captured through my phone’s terrible mic. Unfortunately only the first minute fits on the 16MB flash this time as the audio […] [Original post on hachyderm.io]

TT sky25a also has a decoder I made for 8b10b encoding. This design allows two 8-bit numbers to be decoded and then multiplied together. This came about from discussing how fast a standard Tiny Tapeout design could be clocked and still reliably receive data (preferably from the RP2 on the […]

Besides TinyQV I have several other designs on the sky25a Tiny Tapeout chip, and so far they seem to be working well! My first attempt at designing at the transistor level went well: I made a half adder and then manually placed and routed that into a 16-bit counter, using a flip-flop from the […]

wafer.space Run 2 is now officially in production! 🥳🚀 In short, wafer.space (wafer.space) offers low-volume silicon manufacturing of 1,000 custom silicon chips for the open-source GF180MCU process. Like last time, this shuttle features some […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]

I received the #TinyTapeout sky25a chip, that has the RISC-V peripheral competition versions of my TinyQV SoC on it. There’s lots to play with here, and it’s great to see things are working well. Micropython launches at up to 90MHz, which is faster than […] [Original post on hachyderm.io]
