After a couple days I'd like to add that I personally don't mind when people link my art in discord servers or other private chats. I appreciate it sort of cuz it's still word of mouth advertising for me. But that only works if you share a link and not a still image or screenshot

This provides privacy for the viewer but also makes it feel like literally nobody is looking at your stuff as a maker cuz you might see views but it's like throwing your stuff into a crowded room and then everyone going on their phone right in front of your face and you're not invited to the chat.

I think a big fandom shift in interacting with stuff has gone from people commenting under the created thing whether it be fic or art to people linking it in private discord groups where the person who made it will never see any positive comments left on the thing they made.
