The fact that most objects in JavaScript have .length to report the collection size, yet Set and Map have .size is absurd. Please add .length as an alias for .size on Set and Map!!

I think that companies that automatically subscribe you to a mailinglist after you purchase something from their online store for the first time should be fined, heavily.

And yes, AI can toss you real junk. But so can a human who is not prepared for a conversation. You always, always, always have to validate your findings, no matter how you arrived at them.

Keep in mind, after I've used it to formulate my own thoughts, that's when a conversation with a human is valuable. You've essentially rehearsed your thought process, and now you can focus on validity and a real world perspective. This comes down to AI being a tool, not a solution.

To me, AI is used most effectively when you talk about what you should do and why, not to have it just do it for you. In fact, I think it may be better than talking to a human a lot of times because you can be really, really annoying with follow-up questions, and it doesn't degrade the conversation.

Account management in AWS is a shear and utter mess. I really have to avoid AWS just to maintain my own sanity.

And they can't be like "oh, we don't have the money." That's horseshit. These people are billionaires. The problem is just greed. Pay the players and offer a product we can actually subscribe to without unskippable ads. I don't want to hear the crying. It's lying.

I loved the PLL championship and the CJ Kirst effect this season. But I've cancelled ESPN+ and I'm not going to follow the broadcasts anymore. I'm just tired of the whole package. They need a broadcast reboot, and one that lives in this decade of streaming. Disney killed it.

I'm in full agreement that regulation is needed. This is why it's just not a black and white situation. There's tons of nuance here. Apart from LLMs, medical information should be open. It is not, and that is a crime against humanity. And doctors refusing to share that information is even worse.

Dan Allen @mojavelinux.com · 23/09/2026
It's not a full stop. There is nuance. (The world is just more complicated than that). They can be trained on open data, and that should include medical data. But how they are trained does need to be regulated. Hidden medical data is stolen from us, as a human race.

Dan Allen @mojavelinux.com · 23/09/2026
And btw, medical knowledge is not stolen. It should all be open. It's a human rights violation to gate access to it.

I'm not saying you're wrong. American health is an important part of my situation. I have spent immerse trial and error with it, and it's mostly error. AI is better, even if flawed. And that's actually sad.

They could have just gone with AsciiDoc, though reinventing the wheel is fun.

Dan Allen @mojavelinux.com · 23/09/2026
I think you're describing the American health system. I specifically asked doctors multiple times about different health decisions and they nearly ruined my life. Yes, I have to keep digging with AI to get a complete picture. But it's like with any research, just with greater access to information.

AI is proving to be exceptional at educating me about how to eat better, especially as a vegan. I can quickly figure out what to add and what to omit. I've never come anywhere close to tuning my diet so informatively.

I don't understand why videos on Amazon are so memory intensive and usually refuse to play. You would think for a company that has like a bazillion dollars they would be able to make a video player that isn't absolutely terrible.

It's truly sad that golfers get millions for winning a single competition and lacrosse players are losing their teams. Sports is totally broken.

Cornell attackmen (Pannell, Teat, Kirst) hold all but 1 attack record in the PLL. Single season goals/assists/points and career assists/points. The only record missing is career goals, but keep an eye on # 15. cc: @danarestia.bsky.social

Yeah, that was a big error in its own right. Frankly, I see a lot of mistakes. Sowers in Philly does make sense, though. I'm just not sure about Kirst in purple.

Just a heads up. I was able to schedule my COVID vaccine appointment. Online it may ask “do you have a condition that puts you at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19 virus.” Click yes and it will allow you to schedule an appointment. No questions asked. No proof required. Pass it on.

@danarestia.bsky.social The PLL never listens to me, but I'm in favor of converting the Waterdogs into the Barrage. Kirst looks solid in orange.

@danarestia.bsky.social I think Brian Kelly is getting stiffed for now being considered a rookie. What's a rookie? If you have never played a game in the league, the year you start playing (your pro debut) is your rookie season? The reason doesn't matter. No?

I don't think it's necessarily good for lacrosse that the USA and Canada go out there and crush everyone else. That's not very uplifting for those developing programs. Another idea is to break up the USA and Canada teams by state/provinces. Or form teams by continent (Europe, South America, etc).

Dan Allen @mojavelinux.com · 21/08/2026
@worldlacrosse.sport I have a suggestion that would make these events more effective. Take a page from pro golf and form an international team (non-USA, non-Canada). That way, results aren't so lopsided and players from developing programs have a chance to play with other high-level talent.

Yep. Totally broken. And totally bankrupt morally.

Do you know in the US, we have no medical records from when we were adolescents? That is so fucked up. (If you think we do, I challenge you to find them...you won't).

For the love of all that is good, I wish Node.js provided a YAML parser in stdlib!!! (I HATE dependencies, especially for stuff like this).

Unskippable ads are proof that humans are fundamentally evil (or at least humans that run media companies).

Regardless, I'm going to need a max pack to consider the R2 (otherwise I'll be sticking with R1). Perhaps I'm weird. I accept that. I want more range than anyone thinks I need.

I have to say, I'm enjoying the WLL a lot more than I expected. Serious talent..As long as the refs keep that flag on their pockets for illegal defense, this is some serious lacrosse. Still would love to see the 2 bomb.

Can someone please explain to me how you can have an automated release if the package registry requires 2FA? How does a computer running remotely look at a phone on your desk and input the code displayed on the screen. Are we just doing away with automated releases? Is that what this is?

@chrisrosie22.bsky.social I have to admit, the WLL is very watchable when the league just lets them play, especially not enforcing that stupid illegal defense rule. The all-star game was particularly exciting. I still would like to see proper head & hand protection, but perhaps it will be organic.

You do not have to accept unskippable ads as part of life. No where is this written as a rule of the world we live in. Reject it. Outright reject it.

Dan Allen @mojavelinux.com · 07/07/2026
To me, the missing games on ESPN+ along with unskippable ads interrupting what they do offer is just plain greedy. It's textbook enshitification. I hate it. It's ruining the enjoyment. All of it.

Yes, I feel the lack of motivation you are feeling about the PLL. Like you, I love pro lacrosse and come back to it regardless. And I love seeing my boy CJ succeed. But something is still off.

@danarestia.bsky.social I really don't like the rule that you can call a timeout from the defensive end. I think it spoils the spirit of the ride. You should have to clear first.

I cannot understand why they ever lift the fire ban here in Colorado. As soon as they do, we have wildfires all over the place (and even when they don't). You just can't burn shit here. It's too risky. Not unless we have a monsoon for a month straight (which we never do).
