You're better than me! Didn't finish any of them except Fantasy World until I had emulators and save states much later.

Because of the game, I assumed this was a stupid 80s American action move for years. When I finally watched it, as an adult, I was quite surprised to find it wasn't.

Great work Jon, I'd love to build a point 'n' clicker one day, what are you using to make it?

Consoles (Switch excepted) are basically just gaming-optimised PCs now, each gen is just an incremental upgrade. We aren't going to see leaps like we saw from 8-bit to 16-bit (hugely better graphics) or 16-bit to 32-bit (2d to 3d) again, sadly.

The enunciation on the voiceover sounds very AI too, unnatural-sounding rythm and pace of speech is a clue. Shame as MM definitely deserves a new audience.

When did you first see a digital camera? For me it was in Debehnams, Sheffield in 1996. 640x480 resolution & mindblowing. Marshal Rosenthal saw them 7 years earlier at the 1989 Chicago CES. The Toshiba model has 400 lines of resolution and stored 13 images per "pop-in card". TGM #21 #retro

Got my 1st experience of computer gaming Xmas '85 on my cuz's C64, Spy Hunter &Ghostbusters. Spent '86 learning all I could about computers & games, reading entire mags cover to cover in WH Smiths etc, before finally getting my Speccy +2 @ Xmas '86. Hence '86 is 1 of my fave years for games ever.

A throwaway comment in @wizwords.bsky.social 's excellent article on Fish(!) in this month's @retrogamermag.bsky.social got me checking out Legacy: Realm Of Terror. Not expecting much but the character select/design is quite cool.

Is this a common occurrence? I haven't been to a live music concert in years. My daughter is desperate to see Katseye at the 02 in September but tickets (in child-friendly seats) averaging £1,000 lol (bad luck kiddo). If I wait till nearer the time are they likely to drop?

Is this eBay? If so, take care of it through eBay not Paypayl. Just mark the item as not received and you'll get a refund (eventually).

There may be other factors. Boomer/X/Millenial were definitely all thought up by marketing depts. After that the internet ran with it I think.

Please also bear in mind that these generational dividers were entirely thought up by marketers who needed to pigeon hole us in order to sell us things, and in fact are quite meaningless in many aspects of life.

which I feel is quite unusual (not sure though). As expected when I loaded it up in DOSbox it's not a great game (there's a reason most of the games I come across in this way are largely forgotten...)

The way I enjoy retro gaming right now is going through mags from my golden age of gaming (85-95ish) playing games I haven't heard of. Here is Street Fighting Man. I thought this screenshot (TGM #016) was interesting, quite nice graphic style. Also the fact its a Mastertronic PC exclusive (cont...)

Could you set up a crowdfunder? Not sure of the rules, but if you could, I imagine it would do really well. Imagine being able to fight this election with a really decent budget, have a battle bus, put on roadshows, maybe even a Trump-style rally on Clacton seafront with free booze and fags.

Everyone remembers the first time they saw SOTB on the #Amiga. But you've all forgotten how amazing it was when you realised you could replicate the sky gradient effect in Dpaint haven't you? @retrogamermag.bsky.social

I read that this was the best selling game on the best selling home computer of all time. Don't think that makes it the best selling home computer game of all time but it's still an interesting achievement.

Never had this but I got the updated CPC with a cart slot, along with a monitor from a car boot sale in about 2003, for basically nothing. Had it set up in my place for a while as an interesting curio just to play Burning Rubber and City Slickers which were the only games I had.

Honestly, it might. I only really properly played the Spectrum version, and dipped into the others on emulation. The speccy one seemed like a carbon copy, with worse graphics. Not sure about the others.

Also just noticed @retrogamermag.bsky.social is covering SOTB next issue. I hope they're looking at the ports. I'd like to learn something I don't know alreaedy about the FM Towns version.

I'm not sure it actually was, though. Certainly not in the Speccy version I bought, despite what YS said (the music was nice though) and I don't think its noticeable in any of the various versions I've played on emulators over the years, either.

Everyone knew that none of the ports of this would match the Amiga graphics, and porting the original gameplay without the gfx was a bit pointless. So reviews of every version stated the gameplay had been improved. Or to be more accurate stated that the developers claimed the gameplay was improved.

Twin Kingdom Valley, a game I'd completely forgotten about until it popped up in @retrogamermag.bsky.social this month. Briefly played it as a kid but didn't get far. Any version recommendations? C16/Pet was the latest conversion but presumably not the best? Did the Speccy version add anything new?

have them, though... a lot of the "real" games (ones that resemble arcade games of our youth, eg the Raw Thrills ones) in my local one don't. I am not sure if every cabinet can be fitted with them? It's a problem cos I'm not allowed to play the ones that don't give tickets.

@retrogamermag.bsky.social re: Biffo's article. I feel like the tickets have kept arcades alive. They're not like we remember but I'm still glad they're around and I still see interesting new games from time to time. And kids love the tickets. I would challenge the observation that all machines...

Used to spend ages getting the face exactly like I wanted it, but now I pretty much always just click through with the defaults. Every Skyrim character I've built has been the Nord-looking guy that the face designer starts with.

Leisure Suit Larry etc they mostly seemed to do it at schools or in offices. Really lucky ones had dads with a job that meant they could take PCs home with them. By the time Indy came out, I think they were staring to become more common in UK homes. And the games are clearly evolving into a...

Nice to see C&VG giving Indy FoA adventure a decent spread. It feels like until this game came out, the big US adventures (Lucas, Sierra etc) were sidelined a bit in UK press because no one really had the machines to run them at their best. If people played games like Kings Quest...

Controversial take anyone? I was bored of UK games mags then. They didn't seem to be irreverant and anarchic any more and wanted to be like Empire or Total Film but for games. GamesTM did it best. Maybe Gamesmaster was still flying the flag for idiosyncratic Brit games journalism? Can't remember!

The one that was basically Age Of Empires but with a SW skin. Came with an editor and it was so cool being able to set up huge battles between AT-ATs and Rancors or whatever.

Diamond was a childish dick but made up for it by being funny. Perry just came across as childish, egotistical and lacking a sense of humour.
