When you revisit some strip sets you made last year when practicing the drawing of organic lines with your rotary cutter, then put them away because you couldn’t decide what to do with them and liked them too much to simply start cutting them up and sewing them back together: a new quilt emerged

Interflow #4 is part of a series of abstract quilts exploring the interplay between form and space, where figure and ground continuously shift, dissolve and reemerge. Photo was taken before every seam was closed. But the design wall is taken over by the next project. New photo will have to wait.

Quiltcon is as always a whirlwind. From walking the floor of the exhibit, admiring and studying the quilts, shopping at the vendors and seeing many friends. Day 1 was exhausting but exhilarating. This is “Another Dance with the Dragon”, in the Negative Space category. #quiltcon #quiltsky

Looking at my quilt photos as a distraction from the madness all around us. “Modern Marriage” is a DWR with a modern twist, meant as a reflection that a loving partnership between two people can have many forms, with or without a marriage certificate, and between any two people regardless of gender.

I made Papaya Power in a workshop with Nancy Crow in 2023. I love this quilt, for the valuable lessons and my subsequent warming up to strip piecing as the start of an improv quilt. It’s been a mentally exhausting week; I know I’m not alone. I think I’m ready for some improv. #improvquilts #quiltsky

My quilt “Dancing with the Dragon” was named after a Dutch metaphor for facing difficult situations head on. Made in 2023 as an expression of important lessons I learned with strip piecing as a design concept, it’s very much applicable to what we need to do the next 4 years. Facing it = fighting it!
