I feel like it is inevitable that @metabrainz.org is going to start clamping down or at least get stricter about the API. It makes me sad because it is a free resource much beloved by many of us. It is clear that many bot writers don't care about any sort of civility though.

As with many of our peers, we are starting to feel and show the strain from AI scrapers up the wazoo (and also increased legit/good traffic 🥳❤️) and double to quadrupled server costs. If you have a rich aunt or uncle please consider asking for a MeB server or two this xmas: metabrainz.org/donate -a

Does Serato know that Apple killed QuickTime for Windows nearly 10 years ago? And that requiring it in 2025 on new installs looks very bad?

DJ software database file management hierarchy: DJUCED - straight forward SQLite Serato - groups of binary files with a sane decoder system Virtual DJ - giant XML file, smaller m3us for playlist Traktor - giant XML file XML = "Make my machine eat RAM and go slow"

So finally released a new version of What's Now Playing @ whatsnowplaying.github.io . Lots of bug fixes but biggest feature additions are probably support for JRiver Media Center and @kickcom.bsky.social . Might be the first software for it for DJs?

It occurred to me last night watching a music streamer that a big chunk of them are as entertaining as watching a radio. They just stand there and sometimes turn a nob. I suspect many of them are happy that the video people are being effectively kicked off the platform.

I'm mostly convinced that chromaprint is sort of broken and it might just be algorithmic issues given how much any 'no sound' in the beginning of a track throws it off. Plus the last release is now 2 major ffmpeg releases behind ... @metabrainz.org

I'm watching a stream where someone replaced the iconic Bowie on SNL in '79 performance with the album version. I honestly feel cheated. The songs performed that night was pretty much the end of the 70s.

I've been working hard on getting a new release of What's Now Playing out. It has been a bit of a chore just updating various internal things. For example, today I stumbled across a bug in the Python interpreter (the lang that WNP is written in) and I have no idea how to work around it. yay.
