Spurs briefly back in our favourite position of 17th after Elanga's goal. Everything felt familiar again. With the second goal, we're in the position we REALLY wanted to be in the last 2 seasons but for the exploits of the likes of Ipswich, Burnley and Wolves Rock bottom 🫣

Inter Miami are appointing Kily González as their new manager. A Rosarino like Messi, but a former manager of Rosario Central, rivals of Messi's boyhood club Newell's.

Facundo "Jagger" Herrera's debut off the bench for Boca Juniors has given their fans so much satisfaction that they are calling for him to be a starter. The 20-year-old defender claims to have never heard a Rolling Stones song despite his nickname.

Didn't expect a result against a strong, stable Brentford. We fielded 11 players who've never played together, with 3/4 of the defense making debuts. De Zerbi needs time to gel them, but clear learnings on who won't make it at Spurs.

River Plate lose their opening two games of the new season despite starting with 3 World Cup winners in their defence. Steimbach's late winner for Gimnasia saw Otamendi fail to deal with the cross and River look to be once again looking at a managerial change.

Jorge Sampaoli's playing career was cut short by injury as a youth at Newell's. Despite a 35-year coaching career (including at a World Cup & winning a Copa América), he never managed in the Argentine Primera—until tonight. His Talleres debut? A 1-0 loss to Newell's Old Boys.

Very petty from Rosario Central, using an image without Leo Messi or Lisandro Martínez (both ex Newell's players) to pay tribute to the national team.

8 of Argentina's 2022 World Cup Final starters will also start the 2026 final (only Otamendi, Molina & Di María missing). For comparison: when Argentina made back-to-back finals in 1986 and 1990, just 3 starters carried over: Maradona, Ruggeri and Burrucha

Thought Scaloni had messed that up with his substitutions and loyalty to the players who won the trophy from 4 years ago. But the players he does pick have so much mental strength and resilience. What a comeback.

American Justice? Despite being a huge Pochettino fan, I revelled in watching Belgium thrash the US. Real men against boys stuff. Trump getting involved and Balogan playing psychologically flattened all of the momentum that the team had built.

Sorry to see Bielsa bow out of the World Cup. The reported friction with the players was plain to see with their underpar performances on the pitch. I think he must take responsibility for selection of Muslera though – a bit of a wild decision to bring him in from the dark at 40 years old.
