Well, various regions in the American continent have been named "Columbia" over the years; eg. British Columbia (Canada), District of Columbia (Usonia) and Colombia 🇨🇴. I don't think Usonia can claim sole ownership of this term. Though I understand what you mean.

Right, I confused Columbia with Colombia 🇨🇴. I don't think I've ever seen Columbia being used to mean the USA. Columbia in theory can just mean the American continent as Columbus "found it". Well, I just Usonia to just mean USA in general. So that's where the confusion comes in.

Usonia is a proposed name for the United States of America, as a way to differentiate the USA from the American continent. The USA had slavery and racism obviously.

I'm bad at comedy. Though, I still think Usonians would help the confusion between American continent and U.S. national/citizen. Canadians are Americans in a continental sense. Not sure how long the "American = USA" stigma would last in Canada.

The word "Usonia" (and demonym "Usonian(s)") was coined by James Duff Law to refer to the USA so there be no confusion between USA and the American continent. Frank Lloyd Wright loved the term so he used it for his architecture trying to popularise it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usonia

I think "a Usonian" would be more grammatical, as A/AN are for sounds not letters. Usonian is pronounced "yoo-son-ee-uhn". The Y-sound is a consonant so it takes the indefinite article A not AN.

Just a way to have separate terms for the USA (Usonia) and the American continent. Usonians aren't the only Americans. There are other American countries. Canada, Latin America & the Caribbean are American in a continental sense. Also there are many European territories like Greenland

Columbus "discovered" America (continent) but not the USA. It wasn't really a discovery as the Vikings were the first Europeans in America and there are indigenous inhabitants who lived way before Columbas. There's even evidence Polynesians been to the continent before Columbus

There are 35 countries in America (North + South + Central + Caribbean). 20.5 (ES, PT, FR) say America is one continent and not a country. 14.5 (EN, NL) say America is the USA and two separate continents. That 0.5 is Canada because of French. I don't know what to tell you 20.5 > 14.5
