Back at the docks, Labhra asks Rhodes what he expected. Both seeing Lauri is no where to be seen and the plant that was holding her is destroyed.

La: What were ya expectin'?
La: Only one winner, only one person gets a wish. Guess you wanted it more.
R: Guess I did.
La: What will ya do now?
R: Honestly... I have no idea...

Rhodes makes an offer to Labhra. His armor in exchange for stay at the bar. Deeming it a safe place to keep Olette while she's... Preoccupied. Labhra agrees. With some conditions. All while Rhodes' hand is up to some mischief further down the docks.

R: Your bar's a safe place, right?
La: Safe as I can keep it. Why?
R: Please let us stay, at least until Olette's better. I don't have any money but... This is iron!
R: Maybe you could use it?
La: Fine, give it here. Just no funny business and yer cleanin; the mess ya left.
R: I didn't start that!
La: Aye, but you WILL clan up if you wanna crash on MY couch.
R: Y-yes ma'am...
R: Least I can get my hand back...

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the sea.... Two figures are in the center of a sunken portion of Caoin. The swimming figure hands the hooded one some sort of shiny object. The two are interrupted by Pan dropping into the water. Fighting of a plant similar to Rhodes'.

Pan is knocked into some of Olette's ribbons, getting tangled in the mess. He swipes for his mask, which Olette keeps out of his grasp. Rhodes shows up.

P: You WRETCHED little forgery!
R: You're nothing with out that mask, aren't you?
P: How rich coming from you, husk!

Pan yells at Rhodes about his [Rhodes'] condition. Question just how much of the knight is truely there. Truly in control. As the infested knight raises the gun.

P: Where's the line between you and your bramble now!?
P: Your wounds, the bullets, the vines, how much of you is even left!?
P: Who is it really holding the gun?

A loud BANG erupts through the woods, and Pan is knocked off the cliffside. Rhodes looks on in horror, a vain attempt to tell the demon that he [Rhodes] didn't shoot him. Olette interrupts to express her feelings on the matter.

R: That wasn't... me...
O: Good RIDDANCE!! Enjoy your fall, you stupid jerk!!
R: Olette...?

Olette gives a piece of her mind out into the world. Revealing just what an impact Pan's words had on her. She wraps herself up in ribbons into a safe little cocoon as Rhodes pieces together what she's feeling.

O: Who does he think he is? Talking to me like that!?
O: I'm just like any other fairy!!
O: I'm so much cuter than a real one...
O: I'm... Real, right...?
R: Does being a summon... Bother you, Olette?

#BoCOCT R1 [🌹🦋🆚⚾🌳] Pages 25-28/35 It's a case of 'this was pretty cool in my head' so even if it's not, I'm gonna pretend like it is regardless if it is or not.

Rhodes, now armed with Lauri's gun, is confident in his ability to use a modern firearm. Lauri asks Pan what next, and something Pan says enrages Rhodes into firing.

O: Can you work this thing?
R: Yeah? It's basically just an Arquebus, right? (AN: no it is not)
R: You got my back? His magic can mess with my guest.
O: Just don't blow yourself up. I'm supposed to keep you safe.
L: What now!? I can't.. I don't wanna hurt anyone!! Maybe we can just talk to him and-
P: With how sever his condition is, killing the poor gool would be a mercy.
R: A mercy he says!

Rhodes fires a shot. Not with the intent to kill as the bullet bursts into a plant that restrains Lauri. Olette is enraged by this. But Rhodes quickly turns his attention to Pan.

O: Lauri!!
O: Don't hurt her! Are you listening, MORON!?
R: I'm keeping her out of this. It should only bruise.
R: I don't know what's going on in that skull you're hiding. I'm not a monster. I'm still my own person.
P: And you think you hold sway over that parasite? You think you're different?
R: I'm... I'm still me. I'm alive!!

Pan uses his magic to turn into a seal and flees, taking Rhodes' attention with him. Olette assures Lauri they'll return for her. Lauri ponders what just went down, fiddling with her restraint as someone approaches her from behind.

R: WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING!?
O: You stay right here! We'll be back! Fairy's Favor's Promise!
L: W-WAIT!!
L: A fairy favor... My heart is pounding. Is Rhodes a monster? Is Pan a...
L: Monster?

Now in the woods, Pan in the shape of a wild pig continues his escape with Olette in hot pursuit. Trailing a ribbon behind her meant to ensnare the fleeing demon. She manages to get in front of him and slam herself down onto his mask. Wrapping ribbons around his horns to and shifting his weight to send him tumbling. The false fairy nicks his mask in the fall, knocking him out of his boar form.

P: Even for a fey imitation, you're just as annoyingly persistent.
O: You tried to kill my charge! And you'll be stupid enough to try it again!
O: So you have to GO!

Lauri runs to check on Olette and Labhra politely asks the two bickering men to leave the bar in a peaceful manner. By using a cannon. Naturally.

L: Are you alright?
La: Fighting's part of this farce of a festival.. I get that...
La: BUT KEEP IT OUTSIDE MY BAR!!
R: HE STARTED IT!!!

Lauri joins the boys outside, asking Pan if this really the right call. Rhodes can't be a monster, can he?

L: Wait!! Pan!!!
L: This feels... So wrong! He's still a person, isn't he?
P: He may not want to harm you but his parasite will come after everyone.
P: He'll go after you. All the innocents in Caoin... Even your uncle.

Pan helps convince Lauri to use the gun she brought. And learns the hard way she didn't bring ammunition for the thing. Pan does not share her enthusiasm.

P: When you took that gun, did you not consider having to use it?
P: If it helps,
P: -think of those you'd want to protect... And keep them in mind as you squeeze the trigger.
-gun clicks-
L: Oh thank God, it was empty (I don't have to be a killer...) I mean oh no!

Pan chastises Lauri, who reveals she's not gun savvy in the slightest. Olette springs her trick she was setting up and steals the gun away. Giving it to Rhodes. He's quick to use the parasite he loathes to remedy the gun's missing ammo problem. Olette tells him the condition of this gift is NOT to harm Lauri. Pan on the other hand...

P: YOU BROUGHT AN UNLOADED GUN!?
L: I'VE ONLY SHOT IT ONCE! I DON'T KNOW HOW TO WORK THIS!
L: I can use it like a bat, can't I!?
P: ARE YOU SERIOUS, CHILD!?
R: Should I really take a gift from you, Olette?
O: Shut up!! Tricks can wait!
O: Screw that skull face, but don't hurt Lauri! You got it? I owe her a fairy's favor.
R: Mhmm

Ignoring Pan, Rhodes strikes up a conversation. Learning what's at stake for Lauri. Which in turn, strikes a cord in him he wasn't aware of.

L: You here for the festival, Mr...?
R: Rhodes. And kind of... You?
L: I'm Lauri, and no. I'm looking for someone: my uncle.
O: He looks like an unc! Is it him?
L: Oh my gosh no, dork.
L: He went missing while we were camping. I don't know where he is of if he's... If he's...
L: I have to find him.
La: I'm sure he'll turn up. Have faith.

Everyone is at the bar. Rhodes isn't sure what's happening but someone was kind enough to snap him back into reality.

La: Now eat up. Some food in you will relieve the worry.
?: Finding a loved one...
?: You can relate, right? Just one of many problems you'd rather... Wish away~
?: Love, escape, survival. So many possibilities for you (our) wish.
?: AND YOU (WE) NEED IT MORE THAN HER.

Pan's magic affects Rhodes and forces him to stand down. Lauri demands some answers and Pan's more than willing to speak his mind.

L: PAN!? What the fuck are you doing!?
P: Just beginning my work. The Earth Mother wills that I eliminate a threat here. And what happens to stumble into a tavern?
P: A walking corpse with a now -- once extinct -- parasite... A monster, that if not dealt with will consume all of us as it has him.
P: Is that not right, Rhodes?

Lauri is in disbelief over the matter. Olette steps in to protect her charge, only for Pan to effortlessly throw her into a wall.

L: You don't know that! Is it the plant? Can't you just kill that?
P: There is only the parasite! At this point, there is hardly any 'Rhodes' left to matter.

Labhra, the bar's owner, insists Lauri put her phone away and eat. Pan does his best to comfort Lauri... To mixed results. Labhra doesn't help much comforting her either.

La: Phones down at the table, your food'll get cold. Labhra's orders!
L: Oh! Sorry!
P: I'm... sure your uncle is safe out there. The Earth Mother doesn't let souls wander for long.
L: Pan... Please stop, you're making him sound dead. What if he's just here, like us?
La: That'd be a real shame if he was...
L: Wait, why would that be a shame?
La: Ah... W-well...
P: Well, then he'd be trapped here until the festival's end.
L: TRAPPED???? ARE WE STUCK HERE????
P: Lauri, would you do anything to see your uncle again?
L: Of course!
P: Even if the price was harming someone?
L: ...

The conversation stops when a familiar pair walks through the bar's door. Labhra gives them a welcome, which Olette interprets incorrectly. Lauri meets a fairy for the first time. Pan takes note of the 'fairy'.

La: Make yerselves at home!
O: Oki doki!! I live here now!!
La: I don't think so.
O: Then why'd you give me your house? HUH??
L: Wait wait wait, is that a fairy? Like a real one?
O: Me Olette!
P: It looks like a fairy, but...
O: Me fairy!

Rhodes tries to give a fair warning, and Olette demonstrates how dangerous she is. Pan's attention drifts to Rhodes after learning Olette is a summon.

R: Careful. She's a menace.
O: I'm going to eat for the first time! Any tips for beginners?
Silence.
R: don't mind her, she's a fresh summon.
P: So not a fairy. A simulacra?

Lauri endangers herself by offering a tasty treat to the false fairy after hearing she's never eaten before. Olette taken aback as this is her first and only gift she's received.

L: You should try this! It's a pastry.
O: Like... A gift?
L: Sure! your first meal should be a sweet one!
P: Don't get any ideas, Fey. It's just a mortal gift.
L: Don't mind Pan, he's a stick in the mud.
O: I-I like this gift very much!! It's full of plant meat!!!
R, L, and P: Plant meat...??

Something, or someone, watches the conversation unfold through one of the church windows. Rhodes isn't thrilled to be no closer to a cure... But maybe he could just wish all his problems away. Olette demands the host take responsibility as an unseen figure agrees.

M: If it's a name and a cure you're waiting for, I can offer you neither.
R: Figures...
R: But a wish is... (book text: he murmured)
M: A wish is a wish. (book text: she asserted) It's absolute, and sought after by many in your situation.
O: Rhodes can't just die in a stupid tournament. Take responsibility and help us!
M: I-
?: Yeah, Máire, take some responsibility~

A giant looms over her guests. Revealing in awe her presence causes. Rhodes asks a very good question before Máire drags him into the town's problem.

O: Wow! That's a big!
M: You're... Back early, my Lady? Was something not to your liking?
R: So that's the Princess...
T: Heh... Talking about us behind out back? Me? Princess Tuilelaith?
R: Why does a town even need a princess?
M: N-nay, I was simply welcoming out (hopefully) final contestants.
R: EXCUSE ME-

Rhodes demands an answer but can see plain as day this woman is in just as much bullshit as he is. He plays his part and Tuile takes in interest in a bratty lil fairy punching far outside her weight class.

R: The hells are you doing?
Silence
R: Best for last, as they say!
T: The 'best' is a dying weed and a-
O: HEY!! How am I a weed!?
T: Why do you look so...

Tuile waves off that topic, she's far more interested in potential violence and bloodshed. Hinting at duo she'd love to pit Rhodes against. Meanwhile at a bar in the docks, a girl name Lauri is fiddling with her phone as her reluctant guardian questions it is what she's doing.

T: Bah, forget it! I wanna watch pretty boy squirm,.
M: The question remains, who's left for them to fight?
T: Oh, I got juuust the 'contestants' I wanna see you decimate.
L: Honestly... I don't know what I was expecting...
?: What is it, Lauri?
L: No signal...? Not a single bar? Not even emergency calls work.

A new scene with a new character. A woman with a large branch staff and long hair is left alone with her thoughts. Until Olette ruins the peace. This mystery woman greets her unfortunate new guests.

O: HEY LADY!!
M: Ah, late arrivals.
M: Come, hurry up. "Our Princess" is away for a moment, so we're enjoying a breath of peace.

Rhodes makes a rude comment before introducing themselves to Máire. She makes an observation on Rhodes' condition and assumes he's here for treatment. Olette insists they want to leave.

R: Princess? You her maid?
M: Very rude, even if in some ways you're right.
M: Máire. Máire Gallagher.
R: Rhodes. And the little stalker is Olette.
O: Don't just give my name away like that!
M: Ah, Rhodes. I can see why you've come here.
M: Seeking a cure, no doubt? An uncommon but not unheard of reason to visit.
O: Actually, we were wanting to leave.

Shocked why anyone would pass up a wish, Máire presses. Rhodes expresses some skepticism and Máire bluntly tells him some of his options.

M: Leave?? But, he's practically overgrown. And besides you two wouldn't be here if you hadn't exhausted every option.
R: I have one other option...
R: But it's just... a wish granting book? Can't blame a guy for doubting how good that sounds.
M: I see... Well it pains me to say none can leave while our festival is going. A festival of last man standing. A battle royale as some call it.
O: So they have to play your lil game, right?
M: No. You could always spectate if you liked. You'll end up dead like the rest though. In any case, you'll be stuck with us until we crown a winner. Is there any harm in trying to win yourself a wish?

Rhodes starts questioning Máire. The important question now is how she knows about his parasite. Something she claims to have seen before. And knows exactly what it's doing to him.

R: So that's it? A fight to the death over a wish?
M: With how little time you have, does it matter?
R: And you know my condition so well... Because?
O: I don't!
M: I've seen it once before. An old being; Greedy and invasive. Even now as you speak, as you breathe, it's eating away at you.

Our protagonists venture further into the town they find themselves in. Rhodes looking very dour as Olette loses her patience. She snaps at Rhodes.

O: You're creepy Rhodes!
R: Huh? What's your problem?
O: You're just so quiet when there's sooooo much to talk about!

Rhodes removes Olette from his face and the two continue their conversation. As they enter the outskirts of Caoin.

R: I don't know what to talk about. I feel like we'll get answers soon so...
O: Talk about anything else!
R: Look, just... Fine.. Give me your name.
O: Oh, that old fey trick.
Rhodes shoots her a displeased look.
R: I'm Rhodes, but you seem to know that.
O: Of course I know it! I was taught everything!

With named exchange, and still belonging to their correct owners, Rhodes reminisced about a missing sorcerer. Then snapping at Olette when she reminds him of an obligation he never asked for.

O: And I know my name! It's Olette! (Short for Olette!)
R: I just wasn't sure if summons got names. Hiktor never named any of his familiars.
O: You're bringing up this Hector guy a lot. I hope you're just friends; you're a fiance now!
(R: Hiktor. O: Whatever!!!)
R: I thought I told you I'm not marrying- Fuck it.
R: I guess speaking of... How well do you know Pearl?
O: So, I was only just born but I was taught everything I need to know! And I know everything about Pearl!
They sit in silence
R: Well?
O: Well what?

Frustrated, Rhodes gives up on the subject before laying down what he views his relationship to Olette is. A temporary one. Olette questions about the wish the festival offers. Striking a cord with Rhodes before he avoids answering it.

R: Forget it!
O: I have forgotten it!!
R: Let's get one thing straight, you're on your own after I'm out of here. This is an alliance of circumstance, okay? I'm fine with you tagging along until then.
O: What about the wish?
R: What about it? You don't need it.
