A common misconception is that only war veterans experience PTSD. The truth is that anybody who experiences something traumatic, such as domestic or sexual violence, can develop PTSD. Advocates at DV/SV support agencies can help connect survivors to resources, such as mental health professionals.
Many survivors of domestic violence also experience Post Trumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

May is Asian American, Native Alaskan, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Abusers often use survivor identities to further harm or control them. Members of these communities may experience additional forms of abuse where their abuser uses their culture, traditions, or spirituality to control them.

We can't fully count what's being ignored. Because of limited data, there is no reliable nationwide count of how many Indigenous women go missing or are murdered each year.
