Chants heard today at Tehran’s Allameh Tabataba’i student protest: "Unemployment, forced labour, compulsory hijab" "Death to tyranny, the hijab, and the Morality Police" "Their slogan is dialogue; their guns are aimed at us"

The fact that many of the executions and death sentences in Iran don't make headlines isn't because they have stopped. So far in 2026, the Islamic Republic has executed at least 1001 Iranians, including 41 in September. Currently, more than 100 people are facing the death sentence.

Similarly a sociologist from inside Iran also said a while back that the country is in a very sensitive position and that anything, literally anything, has the potential to set it on fire again.

For many reasons, I don’t believe we’ll face an Iranian refugee crisis as we did during the Syrian civil war, and I think the EU shares that view too.

Thank you! Glad to be back. I’m not entirely sure. Fuel prices have already significantly impacted Europeans, and I believe involvement in Iran would be very unpopular; I don't think any politicians want that. Just ensuring the IRGC can't control the Strait is enough.

With the blockade, small skirmishes, increasing sanctions, energy shortages, water crises, political unrest, repression, extremism, and ongoing executions, life has become unbearable for Iranians. In short: the situation is unsustainable, and change is inevitable. The question is when and how.

Not as bad as last year, but still on the verge of collapse. We had a few good rains in spring, and usage has declined since the war. It’s a ticking time bomb for sure, but so is everything else in the country. We just have to wait and see which one goes first.

Too many differences of opinion. A deeply divided society. Radicalism. Stubbornness. Decades of violent oppression. Ideological blindness. The experience of Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan fresh in memory. Free access to guns will probably result in severe consequences, and most Iranians know this.

Embassies and consulates are mostly shut or operating at minimal capacity. Airlines are cancelling their outbound international flights. Travelling abroad is impossible for most of the population, and the cost of a temporary exemption from mandatory military service has increased by over 550%.

The value of the Iranian Rial has plummeted. Recent sanctions have cast doubt among many young, educated individuals who intended to emigrate from the country. Taking standardised foreign language tests is no longer possible, and many visa applications are being rejected for arbitrary reasons.

It’s impossible to predict protests, but they remain a possibility. No weapons, or at least not nearly enough; most people generally don’t want a civil war.

Thank you! I’d say it depends on where you are in the country; major cities, especially Tehran, rarely experience water shortages. However, in other regions, even in Tehran’s suburbs, shortages occur as they did last year. Many water pumps are electric, so power outages often cause water shortages.

Society is deeply divided. People are visibly frustrated even during brief interactions. Unnecessary and petty arguments are prevalent. Everyone somehow believes this situation cannot go on for much longer, but there is no consensus on how or when it will change.

Thanks! Well, people are still deeply affected by the January massacre, more than I expected. You see them mentioning it, sometimes not very discreetly, in everyday conversations. Regime supporters are louder than ever, but I only see more resentment in replies from the people.

Inflation is spiralling out of control. The middle class is nearly disappearing. Salaries no longer cover even the essentials. Anyone not connected to the IRGC is getting poorer each day. Doubting whether you'll have enough food on the table by the end of the month isn’t uncommon.

That’s almost exactly what I said a couple of days ago. You can easily compare prices with those in many European countries, yet most people earn barely €100 per month. It’s abysmal.

Power and water outages are part of daily life. Residents in major cities lose electricity every few days for about two hours, while outside city centres, outages are longer and more frequent. Many cell towers fail during outages, disrupting signal and internet access for the residents.

The economic situation in Iran is much bleaker than anyone can describe. Most people are struggling just to get their daily meals. For most, even the idea of saving or investing is a joke. Conditions worsened further after the recent fuel shortage and price spike, with many expecting another soon.

Russia is a cancer of the world. It must be stopped. Russian terrorists attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles. They hit apartment and residential buildings, shopping center, and even a metro station where people are hiding. Many are dead and wounded. This is pure terrorism.
