What does this awful and terrifying event have to do with higher education? Stop conflating institutional goals with education, it's not helping. You say you are a PhD, you should know this. Talk like this can put blame on the Professors, not the administration where it belongs.

👇👇👇🔥🔥🔥 A very eloquent way of putting it. My words are less eloquent. Stop being so lazy and contributing to the loss of critical thinking in next generation of scientists.

Fear of making a misstep is a Western way of thinking. Mistakes lead to growth. Just listen, reflect, and learn and allies will always be welcome - - mistakes and all.

Opinion: Opinion: Building Canada Strong Act just another way of sidestepping Indigenous rights
In 1846, Britain faced an emergency influenced by the Irish famine, so leaders repealed the country’s “Corn Laws” and restrictions on imported food and grain, transitioning to a system of free trade.

I fear for the next generation of scientists with AI. Lack of critical thinking, troubleshooting, inability to handle failure, and the ongoing belief that everything AI tells them is true. The perpetuation of bias.

One professor's fraudulent output that would get his students in big trouble for academic misconduct. www.washingtonpost.com/education/20...

Using AI, a professor wrote 200 papers this year. Researchers are alarmed.
An online platform removed 257 papers written or co-written by the University of Chicago’s Nicholas Polson after other academics raised questions.

Haven't read the paper, but on X author said they included an ethics statement, using the minimum thresholds to "cause pain" to the AI. It was ridiculous.

For the 1st time ever I put 2 CIHR applications in and so will be adding to the application pressure ☹️. I have great data, but with funding calls for independent projects now non-existent for mid career researchers, I simply had no other options.

There are two types of people in academic leadership roles: Those who will say yes to good ideas unless they absolutely can't, and those who say no unless they run out of objections. I guarantee that anything innovative at your institution happened because of the former and in spite of the latter.

I wish I could tell all the young eager people who write to me about wanting to do research, or the new novel exciting theory they have developed, that if your email (or worse, theory) was very obviously generated by chatGPT it will be very hard for anybody to take you seriously.

Professors are, by and large, utterly complacent if not outright compliant and complicit. Despite enormous privilege, they are disproportionately silent -- until their grant funding is at risk, anyway. I have been embarrassed by my profession on issue after issue. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/16/u...
