Ah yes, the stage of infancy called 'shit and barf on every surface, outfit, and caregiver you have'. He's fine, no illness, just need to size up the nappies and figure out how to stop him from scarfing his milk like a starved Labrador. He starts grinning immediately after yeeting his milk.

^ My deficiency was math. Parents sent me to remedial tutoring so I could pass basic high school classes (Later diagnosed, I likely have a form of dyscalculia making things hard under pressure) and I'm grateful for the ability to figure out basic stuff on my own. BUT accounting was never my future.

THIS. Currently in a bigger house but would swap it in a heartbeat for one in our old neighbourhood bc even though crime was slightly higher, I could walk for 7 minutes and get to a cafe, bakery, small grocer, park, and a library.

The desire to be valued for all the knowledge you spent years accumulating is pretty widespread. If we can't get lecture theatres full of students we'll settle for anonymously-published ebooks with some nudity wedged in between absolute chapters of niche specialist knowledge that the plot hinges on.

Like yeah if institutions aren't going to value these people then of course they're going to make bank writing self-insert wish fulfilment with some of the best-researched worldbuilding structured around its smut that readers have ever seen.

Fascinated to watch a whole cohort of female academics get let down by the industry, only to channel their niche interests into their own sub-genre of Romantasy* *Brilliant female heroine, an expert in her field, is swept off her feet by a love interest who is *fascinated* by her and her intellect.

What in the fresh sensory hell is THIS. (Image courtesy of Kmart Australia, Summer 2025-2026 edition). Description of issues in Alt-text
Long sleeved pyjamas with three string-tie closures at the front of the shirt with a gap showing how the shirt doesn't fully close even while tied. The waistband of the pants barely reaches the hem of the pyjama top. The sleeves only just reach the wrist and there's a folded collar on the pyjama top. This implies that the shirt will ride up the arms, ride up the torso, and the collar will flap about as you sleep, creating - as the text of this post suggested - an absolute sensory hellscape during the time of day that a person is supposed to be the most comfortable. A monstrosity of pyjamas.

Wok cooking technique puts oil in the pan after it's heated up, and it'll be nice and nonstick without any particular coating. I use that for my cheap IKEA steel pans and it works a treat.

Academia cut me loose just in time for the holidays so I'm launching my consultancy in 2026, in running games & mentoring teens in TTRPG's as a freelance DM/worldbuilder. Fees are mostly to cover the cost of snacks.

From a sound mixing perspective, you might need to enhance the bass to generate a smoother timbre (like the fidelity of a radio host's voice as opposed to the more tinny-sound basic microphones capture). I sound VERY different after being recorded by a proper sound board!

One of my top 3 Doctors, for both Aesthetic(tm) and the type of Shenanigans he got up to with his companion, Ace. Both of them barely kept each other's chaos contained. Just the thinnest veneer of 'well, we SHOULDN'T solve every issue with an explosion...' to keep the plot fresh.

Inexplicably, the toddlers in my local area are *obsessed* with Spiderman*. Never watched any shows, movies, or have older siblings. There's just a magnetic pull towards the mask/logo for some reason. I'm okay to go along with it. *Elsa & KPOP Demon Hunters too, but Spiderman is #1 over here.

Again, a bit of a shame, because 8-year-old me in the height of line-up-at-midnight-for-the-latest-release would have gone absolutely feral for those themed blankets/school lunchboxes/christmas decorations, food items, etc. Now it's cheap junk that almost nobody wants. 😒

Not even confirmation bias - I've so far seen cheap plastic bobble-heads and stationery at my local grocery store, themed backpacks and clothing items, tie-in school supplies, holiday decorations, and so on. It's like they're doubling-down on trying to get sales after most of the fanbase has left.

As a Recovered Potterhead(tm), seeing HP stuff shoved into every sale, every store, and every tacky merchandising opportunity is really offputting. 8-year-old me would have been THRILLED with some of this stuff, but seeing it as a parent now feels...eugh. Like, it's *everywhere*.

For anyone who actually games/uses PCs for powerful grunt-work, $1k-ish is a very normal (decent! even) price for a brand-new gaming machine. Contextually, I got mine for gaming + research data processing (good for both) for a STEAL at $800, pre-COVID. Components have gotten more expensive since.

Me, logging onto Bsky from Australia, seeing all the Northern USians post pretty nighttime-sky pictures:
The Superintendent from the Simpsons, angrily saying "The Aurora Borealis? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country?" from the famously-remixed scene where Seymore fails to cook him steamed clams.

When a person has grown accustomed to not thinking, thinking-again is hard work. And they don't want hard work. LLM's that churn out 'answers' to prevent thinking has helped some brains become exceptionally lazy, incredibly quickly.

They remix the song, too! There are about three main 'tunes' with the same lyrics and while the classic is good for a wiggly time there's a calmer version that's quite infant-friendly (and good for background-brain-do doo doo do do do doo~) 😂

Fun fact! If ALL staff have to "HELLO HOW ARE YOU TODAY???" you will *never* get stuff on the shelves in time. The stock room will be chaos and online orders will take days to fill. Because some dimwit manager has everyone on the floor smiling.

Is it because I'm autistic, or is it because I'm often very efficient and just want to get in the store to grab that one thing before leaving? If I want a staff member's assistance I'll politely find one and ask if they're not too busy restocking shelves. BC they're not paid enough to do both jobs.

I perfected the creepy 'retail face' at about 14 because it lowered the % of customers getting pissy with me over 'quality of service'. It burned me out emotionally but I made sure my smile never quite reached my eyes, my voice a little *too* chipper for 8am. As a customer I hate being greeted.
