Our next lecture is Monday 29/09 at 19.30. It is titled ‘A Future for our Past: Archaeological Heritage Management in a Changing Climate’ by Dr Will Megarry (QUB). Attend in-person at QUB or on our YT.

Never trust the British government or the civil service with this. Look how the OSA is already being misused so that people can't gain access to mental health help or even Wikipedia- when you speak out against it being branded a predator. Ridiculously worrying imo.

This online safety act is really great and not having having any unforseen consequences in which you force traffic to only the websites that can afford your dumb verification therefore pushing more aggressive corpo monopolies and less niche and personalised Internet forums

we would have to do a legit microclimate study on the area but I will say a lot of outside stone monumentality has good resilience to climate changes, since it's not changed in its inherent macro climate. However, you are right that too much tourism can be awful for conservation of stone and wood

honestly i love my methodology because it is so well rounded (if i do say so myself umu) but BUT when it comes to making sure it is clear and concise it makes me want to pull my hair out hahaha

Honestly, one of my favourite things about vernacular buildings is their use of common things as a solution for things that we now need more tech for. Pesticide/Fungicide? Damp proofing? Not needed because the Lime wash is a natural fungicide and stops the majority of mold and damp from getting in!

Learning things like climate projections, maintenance, and architecture has been the secret joy of my PhD. Before I had written my masters on landscape archaeology of some viking features in Ireland. Now I am learning how to make and interpret climate projections that I helped make!

My PhD is a bit of a journey, I am using GIS to create a model to help in the decision making process for how to adapt built heritage & archaeological monuments against climate change. I have had to learn so many amazing things I knew nothing about before, being a GIS woman primarily!
