Cinema trip 124 in 2026 Train to Busan 10th Anniversary ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 8/10 IMDb 4.5 Letterboxd A superbly paced zombie film, with some neat ideas, set pieces and tension. It just missed scraping a 5 star because I felt some character choices seemed a little daft.

Cinema trip 123 in 2026 Casino Royale 20th Anniversary While it’s still a little long, it’s still one of the best Bond movies.

Cinema Trip 122 in 2026 Verity ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/10 IMDb 2.5 Letterboxd It looks pretty, and the cast are great. And for that reason it got an extra star than the book. The characters are not all as unlikeable on screen as they were on the page. It’s a slow buildup and like the book the ending feels rushed

Michael @mjgamson.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

@cineworld.bsky.social why do you have all the advance films to book but the app now says I have booked 5 films and can’t book anymore?

Feeling incredibly meh today! Anniversary of a friends passing, holiday blues, the thought of work tomorrow, topping the long list… So before I go hide in the cinema for the evening, I’ve had a bit of rejig of some of my stuff. I’ll snap out of it, just trying to not beat myself up until I do.

Starve Acre ⭐️⭐️ 4/10 IMDb 2 Letterboxd The potential is there and I’m sure the book handles it better. Smith and Clark give brilliant performances, but it’s too slow and no creepy enough to be effective for me.

Michael @mjgamson.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

The Substance ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 8/10 IMDb 4 Letterboxd Moore and Qualley are superb, with very bare all (pun intended) performances. And Quaid is over the top, but then that’s the point. It’s darkly funny and builds to a grotesquely over the top final half hour. But oddly makes sense to what has gone before.

I’ve unpacked, first wash is almost done, I’ve changed the bed, had a shower and yes I’ve order a takeaway still on holiday until Tuesday.

Well the total step tally for me this week in Italy has been a nice 106,621 steps! Not bad for me.

Catching up with @mikinthecity.bsky.social has been well needed this week. We first met in 2019 and had the pandemic not have scuppered my return to Riva Del Garda this would have been our 5th and not 4th catch up.

Just helped a young Germany woman up as she fell off her bike, at a crossing. It was the briefest thank you’s mind, as she then went for the Italian youths who had caused her to fall.

Cinema Trip 121 in 2026 Avengers Endgame Encore Still a brilliant end to the Infinity Saga. Yes the 3 scenes at the end feel shoehorned but they’ve had to, as while fun (yes I like all of the Marvel movies) the run up to Doomsday hasn’t worked as well.

Cinema Trip 120 in 2026 Good Will Hunting Damon and Affleck’s script is brilliant, and while the whole cast are great, it Damon and Williams who steal the film. With two perfect performances.

Michael @mjgamson.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Cinema Trip 119 in 2026 School of Rock Still very chuckle some, Black is a little toned down but still chaotic, the kids are fun and Cusack really does steal the show.

Michael @mjgamson.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Cinema trip 118 in 2026 Bad Apples ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 8/10 IMDb 4 Letterboxd A deliciously dark comedy, which builds up with its squeamishly awkwardness and just when you think it’s going one way it goes another. Ronan is brilliant throughout and the main kids are equally brilliant, but in need of a slap.

030

Michael @mjgamson.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

Cinema Trip 117 in 2026 Heart Of The Beast ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 8/10 IMDb 4 Letterboxd Brilliantly engrossing survival movie, which is nicely directed by Ayer. The scenery is stunning, the partnership between the dog and Pitt is perfectly acted. A couple of CGI animals do jar, but this beast has a lot of heart

Michael @mjgamson.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

Cinema trip 116 in 2026 Resident Evil ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 7/10 IMDb and 3.5 Letterboxd Yes I understand why people have complained it’s not a retread of the games, so the fans aren’t happy. But mostly Creggar’s film plays like a game and is fun for it. The main character is dumb but mostly likeable…

Cinema Trip 113 in 2026 Fall 2 (aka Fall 2:Deadpoint) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/10 IMDb 2.5 Letterboxd The first was a thrilling breathe of fresh for me this was decent in places, like the first you get sweaty palms, and it does make your stomach tie up knots. But some of locations/cgi don’t always gel. 1/2

Cinema Trip 112 in 2026 Jerry Maguire I forget how much I actually like this film, Crowe direction and script are great, Cruise gives one of his best performances, Gooding Jnr too. Zelwegger is so loveable, and Hunt’s cynical line delivery is spot on.

Cinema trip 111 in 2026 Fargo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 9/10 IMDb 4.5 Letterboxd 30 years old and my first viewing and what a viewing. Filled with funny moments, and quirky characters from start to finish. McDormand, H.Macy, Stormare and Bucsemi are all great here.

030

Michael @mjgamson.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Cinema trip 110 in 2026 Practical Magic 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 7/10 IMDb 3.5 Letterboxd A sequel that for me was better than the first, as it gave us a little more actual magic. Bullock and Kidman fall back like it was a year later and not 18. Pace is easy on the eye.

030

Michael @mjgamson.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Cinema Trip 110 of 2026 Pressure ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 9/10 IMDb 4.5 Letterboxd Perfectly acted by Scott and Fraser, with ample support from the supporting cast. There’s tension even though you know the history, and occasional humour through the line delivery.

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Took a little longer to get through but at 720 pages a month isn’t too bad. This was as the quotes on the cover say, a devastating yet astonishing read. At times hard going, but there are moments of hope mixed in within the darkness.
