If your power goes out and you see electrical workers in your neighborhood getting things back to normal, be sure to thank them. I bumped into a few walking to their trucks after they strung the lines on new poles in the park.

Power Outage Day 3: Walking the neighborhood last night and seeing the mox of all the dark houses interspersed with the occassionally lit, noisy generator-powered ones and the more numerous ones with the glow of lanterns through the living room window made it feel a bit like LARPing Station Eleven.

As a scholar who has published research about the impact of bad publicity on demand for beef after publication of The Jungle, I think Trump has fixed on a tried and true way to cut the price of beef: by killing demand by raising doubts about the purity of the meat supply.

I got great news at my latest doc appointment. With about 9k steps a day and weightlifting 3 times a week, improved diet and medication, I dropped 15 pounds since April and lowered my a1c from 10.4 to 5.6. It's been a ton of work but well worth it.
