I wrote a #Python script to generate bingo cards for game drives in #Kenya. This helps engage and inform people (mostly kids) when they would otherwise be bored on safari. The unicorn acts as a joker/wildcard. :P Attaching a few samples for Maasai Mara. Code is here: git.mjanja.ch/alanorth/saf...

What is happening in Brazil? For weeks there has been incredible load coming from fixed-line ISPs on several web servers of mine. #sysadmin #infosec #devops #cyber On one, as of 10AM this morning, there have been requests from 134,000 unique IPs—106,000 of those coming from Brazil.

Snapshot of monitoring dashboard showing very high connection and request rate for MySQL.

As a sponsor of Thunderbird, I'm surprised to see Thunderbird is a sponsor of SCALE. So I give Thunderbird $10/month for development, but clearly they don't need it if they are sponsoring conferences? 😔 www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/22x/sp...

Eeeek I slogged through it a few months ago. I found the writing style annoying.

Sneaky GitHub using dark patterns on their homepage regarding Copilot. After weeks of wondering what this new section on the homepage feed was, I clicked one and immediately got an email about my "GitHub Copilot plan". Grrrrr.

Just deleted 10+ years of tweets and retweets on Twitter using @cyd.social. I stopped using it a few months ago. I'm not polemic about Twitter or Elon, just kinda got tired of arguing with people there. The left, the right, ugh.

I just finished 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘙𝘶𝘴𝘵 by an author from Mombasa, Kenya. Really surprised me with the fantasy arcs and witty writing.

I just finished reading 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘙𝘶𝘴𝘵 by Khadija Abdalla Bajaber. A fantasy novel set in Mombasa, #Kenya. What a fantastic surprise treat this was. I was blown away by the story telling in the wildly creative fantasy arcs. So fun, so funny, and such a serious coming of age story. Beautiful!

Every time I see whistling thorn acacias I have to try to get the cocktail ants to come out. Works almost every time! Never gets old hahaha. This was a few weeks ago in northern #Kenya near Nanyuki. Amazing biodiversity in #Africa.

I have donated to the Freedom From Religion Foundation several times in the past. That they would support a definition of "woman" not based in biological reality is surprising. Sigh. Western liberals have lost the plot. newsletter.sarahhaider.com/p/atheism-wi...

Going on a game drive in Naivasha, #Kenya this weekend. Preparing some of my "safari bingo" cards for the kids to get them excited about the incredible biodiversity we have in #Africa. Code is written in #Python and fetches the images from Wikipedia. github.com/alanorth/saf...

A 4x4 grid of square images of African wildlife laid out like a bingo card.
