One of the things I think this book does best is explore the waves and complexity of grief. Tessa Yang allows the magical elements of this book to shape the crevices of the her griefs and slowly push her towards community. Out from @berkleypub.bsky.social

Winding, sometimes stream of consciousness type poetry. Phrases bump along uneven roads, sputter like a weary engine. Fagin’s poems ask you to trust the process, and know that we are shortcutting our way to an important place. Then, a revelation so bright you have to squint appears. #booksky

Absolutely in love in with new collection, out tomorrow from @tinhouse.bsky.social . Hardly Creatures is a collection that focuses on disability, community, and so much more. The book is modeled to read like a walk through an accessible museum.

This memoir is full of grief, but also with hope. Using an innovate structure, Nguyen tells the dual stories of how her experience of sexual assault led her into activism and the healing of her childhood trauma. #SavingFive #AmandaNguyen #Booksky #memoir
The book Saving Five by Amanda Nguyen is propped up against a large black telescope. The book cover has a portrait of the author, a Vietnamese woman with long black hair wearing a pink sweater. There is a shadow effect behind her and stars overlaid on her hair.

Fundamentally is a book that surprised me. At first, I had a hard time sitting alongside the narrator, Nadia, whose brash and often offensive humor seemed like a defense mechanism that the reader didn’t have insight to. As I got more used to her & her naivety, layers of character were revealed.
The book Fundamentally by Nussaibah Younis is pictured on a blue footstool. The book has a blue background and white title text with three spliced images of a pink feminine face. The bottom image of the face is blowing a bubble with gum.

What’s your response to this question from #RandomHouse?
This is a graphic from random house. The background is green with tan text that reads “1. The book that sets you on the path to a life built by and around reading. 2. The book you can’t ever recover from, that you never stop thinking about, and that makes you desperate to reach that frightening depth of experience with other books.” At the bottom of the graphic is the book Bibliophobia by Sarah Chiyara, which has a green cover and overlapping text of the title at the top.

Printz winner. Wonderful read about a mixed Guatemalan girl who reconnects with her father over a summer of renovation. Important discussion of gentrification and cultural solidarity.
The cover of Brownstone is pictured, a graphic novel by Samuel Teer and Mar Julia. On the cover, between two gray apartment buildings is a brownstone building. A girl wearing a yellow sweater leans on the roof and looks towards the sky.

Literary fiction friends, don’t miss out on Call Her Freedom by Tara Dorabji! It holds heartbreak alongside moments of hope and defiance, imbuing a depth & complexity to each character. Tenderness, in spite of personal and global grief, struck me as I read. Thank you @simonandschuster.bsky.social !
