TIL: The word “foveated” (as in “foveated rendering”) does NOT derive from “FOV” (field of view), but the “fovea centralis”, the area of the retina responsible for sharp central vision.

It's also broken on the Vive Focus 3. Fixed foveated rendering is not bad until you're using a virtual desktop with lots of text and then... Weep basically because you need good eye tracking For dynamic foveated rendering.

Got it. Gentoo With the 6.6 PPC kernel from the Adelie image / boot disk since compiling 6.18 on the single core PPC took about 36 hours and didn't end up working

So I got a bootloader installed.. I got grub installed. After blessing the HFS attributes. Now Gentoo won't launch from grub because of an invalid memory address and open firmware isn't letting me boot from USB 🥀

Adelie Was the only PPC distro that would boot. Using an adelie boot disk (+ helper scripts / creating a Linux distro lol) to install Gentoo which should have actual packages for things and they should work theoretically. It was the partition map or bootloader or both? I got stuck on last time

Hahaha oh You must mean the "car" I realized it looked like that but I couldn't stop. January - May was all spent solving problems that were less glamorous. Like just making the renderer and making the scene graph not really slow And making a scripting language etc

Thanks! I'll try that next. I just tried to get Gentoo to boot and it wouldn't but since adelie boots I was going to add the Gentoo stage 3 files to the iso and then use adelie to install gentoo on the hard drive 🤔

That's awesome!! Going to try that. I had a similar experience recently where I had a rough idea Of how to get the eye tracker for my HMD working through a third-party streaming software and then I just threw the problem at a few llms and (un)plugged A USB cable a few times and it worked 🥲

controlling only 1 rotation axis at a time in xr feels worse than i thought. going to default the editor gizmos [when used from an xr Pointer] to controlling pitch+yaw+roll simultaneously. still very cool imo to be able to do this in #vr instead of in blender.

⚔️ ghost vs ninja grid drawing is now decent. there was a bug where the raycastable wouldnt be picked up on grids, which is fixed now. that had basically prevented initiating a paint stroke / free draw when there was nothing behind grid. so now u can move the grid around and draw

Heated tobacco is okay.. (only about half as carcinogenic to just partially combust it.) I got a doctor to give me bupropion so I could stop so I can get surgery in a couple months, But bupropion is actually not bad. Probably not as good as Ritalin, but it takes away the craving for nicotine
