The Galloway Lab has shown that the order and orientation of neighboring genes control their expression. In a study appearing in Science, researchers created tandem gene circuits (one gene after another) and divergent circuits (genes pointed away from each other). mit-ki.org/4akQamv

MIT researchers including Ed Boyden made photonic devices by laser-carving hydrogel, then shrinking it to the nanoscale. They'll adapt this to classify cells in microfluidics and detect rare circulating tumor cells in blood samples. buff.ly/6o9vUgM
