I'm sure GOP candidates are thrilled to now have to explain this too during the midterm campaigning.

Two interesting bits from that poll: - Approval among Republicans drops to 73% from 82% in previous week, Reuters/Ipsos poll shows - Just 17% approve of Trump's handling of cost of living, Reuters/Ipsos poll shows

Can't say 100% for sure until November but it looks like most people are aware of who is to blame:

Maybe/probably though he did end up sanctioning a Russian bank today because of extensive dealings with Iran. Might do something similar with the authority from this bill as he's desperate to win the war.

Framing it in terms of time would be good, I think. "Anything within 50 km" sounds far but if you say anything within 5 minutes of Poland (missiles, jet drones) then it gets the point across.

This policy of warmly welcoming Russia back in December will be lots of fun for GOP candidates to field questions on during the midterms.

The 39 degree one (기상청 I think) seems to have no way to predict thunderstorms that happen locally and cool things down a bit so I'm betting on the other one. Yesterday at 11 pm where I live we got 20 mm in 20 minutes by a passing storm cloud, cooled things down by 4C in an instant.

Trump just swings back and forth due to lack of focus and yes, his base setting is pro-Putin. I would say that his base has moved a good deal on Ukraine though (like in comparison to before) which is a tiny help.

It's funny how humans do that quite a bit too (though at a much slower rate), growing up before the internet everyone just parroted the line that "you only use 2% of your brain" as if it was as solid as the gravitational constant or E = mc^2. Probably originated from a misquote somewhere.

The translations for the word Rusoriz on his videos every time are pretty fun. Everything from Russian cutter to Russian Defense Ministry to Russian Revolution to anything you can shake a stick at. So a few days ago it was "Please take a moment to donate your 2 hrv to the Russian Defense Ministry" 😆

I always find these polls weird because EU membership is clearly defined, you open and close chapters and yes there is voting but otherwise it depends on what you accomplished as a country. It's like asking someone if they support you being a doctor or lawyer.

Hence "just as serious". The difference is that they are either addressed in the open or by back channels, usually depending on the personalities of those at the top. The current president in Korea is Lee of the DP which traditionally goes after Japan in the open, but Lee just doesn't work that way

Dave MacLeod @mithridates.bsky.social · 22/06/2026
What this reminds me of a lot is the bickering Japan and Korea had for a while a few years ago. Also mostly about historical issues, which taken on their own are just as serious. However, it was dislikes at the top that caused it to flare up. A few years later they just aren't bickering anymore.

Czechia is great because it's nice and short, Sakartvelo I doubt because the flag itself has St. George's cross everywhere so it has a strong outward connection with the name. And Japan etc. no way they would change to the endonym because it's their branding letter (K-pop, J-pop...).

Like if you're a Russian solder there good luck having any supplies get all the way through one of these routes and not get intercepted either by drones or other Russian soldiers that want them first.

Maybe the rest of Kherson will be first? There's the river which is a huge challenge but Kherson is also the farthest from any Russian supply lines (through Crimea or through the entire land corridor), and Kherson city has suffered a ton so would be great to help it come back to life.

The cool thing about 1991 borders is that Russia wouldn't even get those because the Sevastopol lease obviously wouldn't happen again. Not a metre of Crimea and much less Black Sea access. Plus no access to Transnistria either.

I was looking at this Ukrainian learning channel the other day from a decade ago and there's so much Russian sprinkled in it. Authoritarians can't help but harm their language, it seems. Cf. Hitler who thought it a brilliant idea to wipe out millions of German speakers m.youtube.com/watch?v=DuDS...

He might not. A lot of pro-Kremlin editorials that Steve Rosenberg reviews are concerned that the result might just be a superpowered and very hostile Europe right on their doorstep. i.e. the suddenness of what Trump is doing is shocking Europe out of complacency. (Russia loves/needs complacency)

I've always said that Ukraine has the easiest answer to what they are fighting for: Ukraine. For Russia it's convoluted and rarely the same: NATO encroachment, against Nazis, for traditional culture, border safety, manifest destiny, some 11th century event, you name it. Tough to rally behind that.
