The time for this has probably passed, but a movie adaptation of Michael Lewis’s Flash Boys with a soundtrack featuring frenetic 2009 indie sleaze like Metric and Yeah Yeah Yeahs would go really hard

The studio version of Flower Petal sounds great! It really is a song yearning for the uncomplicated beauty of nature and its potential to free our minds from the digital prisons of the modern world.

Hard to believe it’s been nearly 5 years! I’m deeply grateful to have one last chance to play on this stage before Bottom of the Hill closes at the end of the year. Even better to do it with some of the best performers in the Bay Area, @dearbanshee and @thrownoutbones.

Despite my fears and a little rain, lots of people showed up on a random Tuesday night to celebrate with us. Many of my friends met each other for the first time, and I’ve even heard that a band or two was conceived that night. Huge thanks to @modestmarauder for taking these excellent photos!

The Petting Zoo album release party at @bottomofthehillsf was one of the most special nights of my life, and one of the best shows in the history of the band. So many things came together to make it perfect.

One of my favorite games to play with my wife is to name two real local bands and two fake bands and ask her to guess which is which. For example: Dear Motorist Satan’s Taint Calico Whenever Long Haul Liquor Which ones are real?

You know me, never voting for a Republican! I just meant in the primary. Still disappointed in some of Becerra’s positions - we need Democrats who are willing to take on corporate money and tax wealth, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to be him.

Mitch Rocket 🚀 @mitchrocket.bsky.social · 31/05/2026

Becerra doesnt support the billionaire tax, and that’s a dealbreaker for me. I’m voting Steyer.

For now public subsidy is extremely limited, so using it to try to incentivize market rate housing is risky, typically more efficient to just spend it directly building affordable housing than trying to incentivize market rate developers to overbuild

100

Mitch Rocket 🚀 @mitchrocket.bsky.social · 12/05/2026

Even with lower land, labor, and lumber costs, the private market is pretty bad at making new housing for people below median income, which is where public subsidy and affordable housing comes in, we obviously need way more of that.

110

Mitch Rocket 🚀 @mitchrocket.bsky.social · 12/05/2026

It’s a tough thing to do - ‘overbuilding’ is pretty rare, especially because in areas with high land and construction costs, developers are already only building for a tiny slice of high income people and stop once that market starts to be satiated. I think reducing construction costs is #1

110

Mitch Rocket 🚀 @mitchrocket.bsky.social · 12/05/2026

It IS possible somewhere, thank god. I was actually just reading about this earlier today - the economist’s explanation was that developers built a lot in response to the pandemic, then rising interest rates hit at the same time that supply came online

110

Mitch Rocket 🚀 @mitchrocket.bsky.social · 11/05/2026

Currently seized with a bout of “better things aren’t possible” and “why bother” when it comes to affordable housing and politics in general. Anyone got some counterexamples to lift my spirits?
