While I appreciate that this was a rhetorical question, I’m going to answer it. Speaker Johnson and Majority Leader Thune have ceded all legislative-branch power to Trump to avoid his temper. There are no GOP “institutionalists” who are denying Trump his desires, except eliminating the filibuster.

I certainly thought about that before posting. I know that Mr. Bouie knows far more about the topic than I do. I am confident that he knows all the facts that I posted. I posted because I believe many in Mr. Bouie’s feed don’t know these facts. He is a public intellectual with a vast audience.

I respectfully disagree, because it downplays the extent to which a lynching was a public carnival. Bodily mutilation and castration were on display. The crowd at a lynching was a meaningful participant in the event and the audience was meant to include small children.

By the way, the people who were “guaranteeing” that the October 1 release date for Justice Alito’s book meant he would resign just before the election were wrong. The only thing I know *for certain* about the future is that it has not happened yet.

According to the Tompkins County DA, Jane Doe’s 6-page signed statement states that she gave verbal consent to the first two of the Cornell 7. Her civil complaint alleges that she was too inebriated to give that consent. W/r/t the 5 others in the Cornell 7, no form of verbal consent is at issue.

That bill states that people cannot give consent if they are under the influence of substances that have rendered them "temporarily incapable of appraising or controlling their conduct, and such conduct was known or reasonably should have been known to the other person."

Epner supports a proposed change to New Yorks law to widen the scope of when someone is too intoxicated to consent. The New York Senate has passed a bill multiple times, but the state Assembly failed to bring it up for a vote.

He said that in other states that have lower levels for incapacitation, someone who is impaired or significantly impaired cannot consent, and that being too drunk to drive a car could be considered as being at that level.

3. I do not think that prison rape jokes are funny. Prison rape is a serious violation of everything that our society purports to stand for. We would look in horror at any judge in any country that explicitly sentenced a person to be raped.

When Mayor Mamdani was in the Democratic primary, I ranked him second (behind Brad Lander). I had moved from NYC before the general election, but I vociferously supported Mamdani over Cuomo. Many Jewish friends asked how I could “support an anti-Semite”. I responded, “I wouldn’t and I’m not”.

The system is the problem. It turns complaining victims into suspects (of perjury) and averts its investigative powers from young men who have engaged in (at a minimum) sexual practices that could not have been consensual.
