oh, it's just how much i personally like them as a character. S is my top faves (cipher number one ofc), A is love them, B is like them, C is they're fine but i just don't feel much for them, D is an active dislike (topaz was Mean To Belobog and i am aware this is a very petty reason but it's mine)

only in aai2 did it feel like the writers really started to challenge this messaging, and then the tgaa duology was able to be Actually Good by virtue of having the dissection and deconstruction of that view actually be a main theme of the story that was incorporated into the writing from the start

for a long time i also just had an issue with the subtext behind a lot of aa's messaging. there is this underlying thread the main series has of "your client HAS to be innocent" that started feeling like "nobody u defend could ever actually be guilty because you are Special Main Character Guy"

at some point real early on you get hit with "you have to accept witchcraft being real as a given, basic premise in order to move forward at all" and u kinda just have to go "yeah alright sure" and then let yourself get flung around by the ridiculous rollercoaster ride that is the plot

i would not call the layton crossover //good//, exactly, but i will say that i have more of a fondness for it than any mainline game. possibly just because it's SO buckwild batshit insane that i was able to completely suspend my disbelief and just go with the nonsense at some point.

i lowkey just dont think that aas4-6 were very good. but then again i can't say i ever thought the original trilogy was all that good either? the investigations duology had far more compelling character writing and the tgaa duology is objectively the best the series has ever been.

cipher couldn't stay or aglaea would figure it out. but she also couldn't leave aglaea to her own devices or she would inevitably investigate deeper on her own. she had to keep aglaea on a leash. she had to hurt aglaea on purpose whilst also keeping her hooked. she knew exactly how to do that.

you can see just how fragile the secret really was when faced with aglaea's perceptiveness. you can understand exactly why cipher had to do what she did, how she had to lead aglaea on in that delicate balance of push and pull.

3.3 era ciphlaea writing still so insanely adept, what the hell. like, you can tell that aglaea has always suspected smth was up with the gem of all worlds but never pushed it with cipher until she was on the verge of death. you can tell that if agy HAD ever pushed, she WOULD have figured it out.
