was watching the fable gameplay thing and I cannot believe so many modern AAA games *still* cannot seem to fix the utterly dead-eyed expressions. surely there's some kind of solution you can implement at scale which doesn't require the hand animation of studios like valve or naughty dog

A post on the Anxiety subreddit reading as follows:

Calling those with Buspirone/buspar experience.

My doctor prescribed me buspar 5mg. She said I could cut it in half (I have fear of taking medication)

I have the pill in half laying on my nightstand terrified to take it after reading about people's dizzy side effects. Sounds horrible and also a trigger for me because I have low blood pressure when standing or sitting up.

Can someone please help me with this irrational fear. I don't want to intentionally trigger a panic attack taking it. I've already had 3 today lol

I'm getting inboxed with questions and still comments here, and I've done my best to answer each one of you. I stopped taking the medication a few months after taking it. Not because it wasn't working, it did a great job!

For me and my journey, it was not the permanent solution for my situation. We all are in different situations in our lives, but I wanted to share my experience ( which may look different than yours).

I went a different route and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ, and I'd loved to share my testimony with you.

here's a straightforward explanation as an example

around the 2010s, free-to-play games started popping up from developers in japan and china which operate around an idea originating from those little prize capsule machines, nicknamed 'gachapon' in japan. unlike, say, candy crush, their method of making money is much more robust and insidious

where a game like candy crush gives you that instant rush of enjoyment and *then* starts turning the screws to get you to pay up, gacha games give you pretty much everything you need to complete their main story campaigns without much in the way of time-gated limitations. they make it really easy to spend a couple hours each day doing simple little tasks that give you a ton of resources for building up your characters

however, attaining more characters involves 'pulling' the gacha system, like you might pull the mechanism of a prize ball machine. it'll give you some freebie tokens to spin it a few times, but afterwards it'll be roughly $5 a go—obfuscated through some infernal intermediary currency, of course. the chances of getting the cooler characters can often be as low as sub-1%, so you can get *very* unlucky

on top of this, these games are constantly advertising short-term events called 'banners' (named after the promo banner adorning most menus of the game). for a limited time, even cooler characters will be available through the gacha pulls, creating a panic in dedicated players to pay up if they wanna get those characters before they go away for an indeterminate amount of time

there is no limitation to how much you can spend on these. sometimes games will have a 'pity' system which eventually just gives you the damn character after dumping literal hundreds of dollars into the machine. most people will be comfortable with the freebie stuff, but they're subsidized by the unfortunate few who get really captured by the gambling thrill of it all

weird route musings. I'm glad they're going somewhere with this that isn't just "let's make the deer girl feel bad". applied suggestive label because bsky still doesn't have spoiler tagging for some reason

more weird route and general spoilers for the whole story so far: I'm the big "no mercy is integral to the understanding of undertale" person, and I'm gonna say it's probably the same deal here. undertale frames Flowey as having a sort of enlightened insanity, which the player (implied through their shell's machinations) also exhibits in that route. deltarune is instead like, what if several characters were attaining enlightened insanity? instead of the shell being the driver of that, now the soul is. and we get to see the process happen in real-time with one of the central characters

attaining this isn't framed as a good thing because it's what caused Jevil and Spamton to become agents of chaos within the story. it's definitely not good for Noelle because it clearly causes her to see the world in that Flowey perspective of NPCs in a story. if you break away from weird route during the lake scene, she's like "well great, now I get to go back to Noelle the Fuckin' NPC. just gotta read my lines I guess". Susie outright says that Noelle seems distant in the broken weird route scenes. the permanent effects of weird route are likely that the version of Noelle who does break out in chapter 5 will become an antagonist in chapter 7 of any active save files

also becoming convinced that Ralsei is like, an enlightened insane person who is trying to reform himself. his little "I COULD BURN THE ENTIRE WORLD DOWN" tantrum kinda betrays his capability for destruction, but he chooses to play the part of a helpful healer because he wants to create the conditions for the best possible version of the prescribed story. he is willingly offering himself as a sacrificial lamb because it's the only way for him to reckon with the knowledge that this is all just a story being played out. Jevil, Spamton, and Noelle all want to break away from being NPCs. Ralsei (and maybe Gerson) know they're NPCs but choose to play along
