American badgers get coyotes for wingmen 😎

A screenshot from Wikipedia that reads, "The American badger has been seen working with a coyote in tandem while hunting. Typically this pairing is one badger to one coyote; however, one study found about 9% of sightings included two coyotes to one badger, while 1% had one badger to three coyotes. Researchers have found that the coyote benefits by an increased catch rate of about 33%, and while it is difficult to see precisely how the badger benefits, the badger has been noted to spend more time underground and active. Badgers are also thought to expend less energy while hunting in burrows.

According to research, this partnership works due to the different hunting styles of the predators and how their prey reacts to them. A ground squirrel, upon spotting a coyote, will crawl into its hole to escape; while upon seeing a badger, the ground squirrel will climb out of its hole and use its speed to outrun the badger. Hunting in tandem raises the prey vulnerability and both predators win."

While not one of the images in this post, I cried seeing the photo of Booper and I at VancourFur 2019 featured in the article. I submitted this photo by either @elnath1984.bsky.social or @birb.mom talking about my experience in furry through our friendship over the years and heartbreak at his loss.

In a series of photographs on a white wall, there is one of two fursuiters in a hotel bathroom getting ready to go out. Jacq, wearing Juniper the Belgian Tervuren, is brushing their facial fur and Booper, wearing Tank the Hyena, is adjusting his paws. The article blurb under the photos in his screenshot reads, "In I LOVE FURRY, tiny dramas play out in discreet harmony, endless within the boundaries of a photograph."

A film that, by all accounts, should never be described as Raunchy Fun.

Thanks Google for reminding me that SIX YEARS ago I drew a pretty okay bat. My creativity in general hasn't dissolved, but art block specifically has been going on so long I no longer have casual doodling muscle memory. I've got other creative outlets, but I do miss drawing.

A gray scale sketch of an upside down fruit bat next to the ballpoint pen and copic markers used to create it. It has an open mouth with its tongue sticking out in a silly expression.

Sunrise view from my new studio downtown. There have been many changes to my life over a short period of time, but I'm finally ready for this next chapter 🌄

Mirror selfie in the bathroom of Jacq, they are combing their hair with one hand and holding a phone with the other. Behind them is a white door and orange, floral flower curtain. They are wearing a dark red tee shirt with a coyote skeleton on it, a flower bloom is growing from the bones. They almost appear pleased with themselves, but awkward for posing.

Found these photos I took back in September while on a walk with my Mom 🐍

A great blue heron standing tall and alert in a very brushy pond, it's silhouette is perfectly reflected in the still, gray pond water.

The same heron in hunting mode, neck curved to strike the water.

A blue and black garter snake slithering over grass towards the pond brush. It was in pursuit of a much larger but similarly colored garter snake that is not in the photo.

A large bullfrog blending in with the leaves and pond scum.

A few older niche ones and a common Stephen King find. The most original werewolf story here is Thor, told through the eyes of the family German Shepherd (they made a movie based on the novel called Bad Moon, but the book is completely from Thor's perspective).

Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King, but more notable are the incredible illustrations by Berni Wrightson

Unsuccessful star photography from last night, moon was too bright and the horizon too hazy from wildfire smoke, but still caught a faint milky way and possible meteor streak 🌠🌌

Someone is holding a piece of spiral notepad that has been torn out to the camera. On the page there is a neat script that reads, "Aging gracefully in the furry fandom". In juxtaposition there is a very wildly drawn opossum in ballpoint pen. The writer and artist are on very different sobriety levels. This was taken at the last Rainfurrest in 2015.

Cover art for Babe: Pig in the City featuring the titular pig wearing a name tag. He is sitting on a suitcase on the yellow brick road with his narrator mice and duck friend, Ferdinand. Behind them are a golden jumble of different city skylines. Written and directed by George Miller.

They have windblown hair and a very scrunched face, attempting to look silly and fierce at the same time, their arm is posed in a fist with plaid shirt sleeves rolled up. They have decided to post this photograph from over a decade ago since it pairs well with a silly shanty edit from Jaws and shows off their considerable cleavage. So long ladies!

When I attended my first convention in 2008, I was told my badge could say ANYTHING and immediately I said, "Jack but with a Q!". It's been my name ever since. Why Q? No idea. Guessing again it's probably something subconscious from reading all of the Redwall books and Jacques being on the covers📚

The cover of Brian Jacques' Outcast of Redwall from his series of the same name. His name is written in bold red text on the top while the title is in yellow underneath. The cover features a ferret with a wicked expression peaking through the underbrush.

Trans folks, where did your name come from? As far back as I can remember I've always clicked with the name 'Jack', ears pricking with some hidden familiarity whenever I heard it. If I had to hazard any kind of guess, I strongly associated with being a feral woodland boy from over watching Legend🗡️

A messy forest man-child is seen sitting in a near frog squat and holding a heart shaped cookie. He has a curious and gentle expression but do not be fooled, dear reader, for this young man is Tom Cruise and will go on to be one dubious bastard. In this image he is playing Jack O' The Green in Legend (1985).
