After almost 5 years of work, RFC 9953 is finally out. DNS over CoAP (DoC) allows for encrypted and segmented DNS resolution in the constrained IoT. RFC 9952 provides the numbers to discover DoC servers. www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9953.... www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9952....

A schematic drawing of the functionality of DNS over CoAP (DoC). A DoC client sends a DNS query via CoAP FETCH to a DoC server which queries the upstream DNS infrastructure as a DNS client. On response by the DNS infrastructure, the DoC server sends that DNS response within a CoAP response back to the DoC client. The upstream DNS infrastructure can work with DNS over UDP/HTTPS/QUIC and others.
