They have redundancy on the engines and although it didn't complete the full 6 orbits, it was still a success. However, I concede it wasn't a complete success 🙂

Very excited to see Roman edging ever closer to launch. The "go/no go" decision will be this Friday, for a planned Sun 30th launch at 11:26 UTC, 07:26 EDT 🤞 Once in space this telescope will discover >100,000 planets orbiting distant stars and so so much more 🤩🧪🔭🛰️ science.nasa.gov/blogs/roman/...

Happy solar eclipse day! ☀️🌒 This evening people across the UK will be treated to the country's fullest solar eclipse since 1999. Around 90-96% of the Sun will be obscured by the Moon at the peak, which will take place at around 19:00 BST, depending on where you are. Are you going to watch it? 😎

To be honest, it's nice to read about a large company giving way to people's wishes for once and not trampling all over them. We could debate whether the fictitious grave is justification or not, but let's just leave it there and take it as a win.

5/ Not the most challenging but certainly the easiest to post here...

ˢᶦᵐᵒⁿ ᵐᶦⁿⁿᶦᶜᵃⁿ ᶠʳᵃˢ ☀️🌙🌍✨ @minnican.com · 30/06/2026
4/ (c) At what distance from the Sun will the asteroid's speed be exactly half its speed at periapsis? Express your answer in AU and interpret this physically — what does the asteroid's speed at this distance tell us about its long-term fate?
100
ˢᶦᵐᵒⁿ ᵐᶦⁿⁿᶦᶜᵃⁿ ᶠʳᵃˢ ☀️🌙🌍✨ @minnican.com · 30/06/2026
3/ (b) The asteroid's periapsis (closest approach) is 0.3 AU — well inside Mercury's orbit. What is its speed at periapsis? How does this compare to the solar escape velocity at that same distance, and does the result satisfy your physical intuition about parabolic orbits?
100
ˢᶦᵐᵒⁿ ᵐᶦⁿⁿᶦᶜᵃⁿ ᶠʳᵃˢ ☀️🌙🌍✨ @minnican.com · 30/06/2026
2/ For a parabolic orbit, E = 0 at all points, giving the instantaneous speed: v(r) = √(2GM☉/r) (a) Substitute G = 6.674×10⁻¹¹ m³kg⁻¹s⁻² and M☉ = 1.989×10³⁰ kg to show that the speed at 1 AU (1.496×10¹¹ m) is approximately 42.1 km/s.
100
ˢᶦᵐᵒⁿ ᵐᶦⁿⁿᶦᶜᵃⁿ ᶠʳᵃˢ ☀️🌙🌍✨ @minnican.com · 30/06/2026
1/ An asteroid has been discovered on a parabolic trajectory passing through the inner Solar System. Parabolic orbits have exactly zero total mechanical energy — the object has just enough kinetic energy at infinity to escape the Sun's gravity, and just barely falls back in if turned around.
