I occasionally click on an ad for a 5090, just to enjoy loudly breaking out in laughter when I see the price 😂 just for fun, I clicked an ad for a 4060 Ti and it's almost 50% more than when I bought it a few years ago 🤣 can't imagine I'll ever buy another GPU not even remotely worth that money

I'm testing DeepSeek 4.1 Flash the reasoning output is hilarious "let me write. okay, let's write. I'm going to write. now let's write. let's write the changes. let me write now." it interrupts itself dozens of times before actually writing - it eventually gets to work, but it's pretty funny 😆

One thing I have learned talking to lots of people about AI is that they can be both worried about the implications of AI and very excited about using AI themselves. I think people on this site tend to view many people's attitudes to AI as much less complicated than they are.

I really don't like Claude Code I tell it "make this change and let me check it before you spend time on tests and validation" it goes "nah let me try this other change" and then proceeds to spend 10 minutes on tests and validation doesn't do what you say, even when you ask directly that's a bug

Opus 5 isn't slow, it's actually very fast only, you're not allowed to see what it's thinking - it's encrypted over the wire. what you can see (in agents that display thinking) is actually a summary it writes *between* the thinking blocks tbh it's kind of weird, paying for tokens you can't have 🤔

did people say "load-bearing" before Claude? I can't recall anybody using that term about things like buildings or bridges obviously, but not in software, right? I hear it everywhere now and it's just a bit uncanny? somehow 🤔

"AI ALL THE THINGS" isn't principled - but rejection isn't either. You can't 10x your attention - you divide that by 10. Not all code deserves your full attention, so offload the low-stakes work: save your focus for what's important. It is just a tool.

it's amazing how companies manage to make development work anything between awesome fun, and unbearable mindnumbing bullshit I've been at both ends (and I'm thankfully at the good end now) I honestly don't think the ones who are really successful are also the ones who make the work unbearable? 🤔

have you ever needed to contribute to a repo that is clearly 100% vibe coded slop? after about two hours, you give up and let your agent produce more slop to shoehorn in the change, right? it's not like the owner is going to notice or care "machine-only codebases" open source is getting weird 😳

I came up with an improvement to this popular 63-key 60% keyboard layout. I hope somebody steals this idea 😄 www.reddit.com/r/KeyboardLa...
an improved 63-key keyboard layout. the question mark key is located next to comma and period where you normally find it. the SHIFT key is located on the right hand edge of the keyboard. this better resembles a standard keyboard layout, and it's only one quarter of a key wider than the original 60% keyboard layout it is based on.

having a bot auto-close issues without comment is the strongest signal you can send that you're not serious about software development, at all. makes your backlog look good at first glance tho. 🥲

I looked at 8 alternative NPM packages today 6 were slop - of those, 2 didn't work and 2 were vibed in a day and abandoned 2 were clearly AI but usable, but I already found critical bugs in both imagine NPM two years from now, you might as well not install anything and just generate your own slop

does this feel weirdly passive-aggressive to anyone else? "your issues are not important unless we say they are" or at least like a weirdly broken github workflow? making it *look* like fewer issues 🤨 just tag issues as "new" by default and close them if you don't think they're worth while 🤷‍♂️
