El muro. Jean-Paul Sartre.

Rejection. Tony Tulathimutte. Incels, femcels, sexual repression, delusions of grandeur, egostistical behaviors, rejection from the outside and from the inside, and the desperation that turns into victimization and, latter, into violence. Fucking fantastic book omg!
Book cover of “Rejection” by Tony Tulathimutte.

The cover is just a gradient of colors, brown, pink, green and blue. The title and the author’s name is in big yellow letters.Quote from the short story “Ahegao, or The Ballad of Sexual Repression”:

“Since their first attempt, they have not had sex. Sometimes in bed Julian will tug at the elastic of Kant's pajama bottoms or press an amiable semi against the back of his thigh, but it always stops there. For Julian, sex is just stuff-hand stuff, mouth stuff, butt stuff, the light attitude of a well-adjusted guy, for whom sex is dessert; maybe he doesn't need it as much. At any rate Julian hasn't officially complained.”Quote “Our Dope Future”:

“These are my goals, I said: the instant I hit retirement at age 40, I want to start having kids, just like you do—as many at a time as IVF will safely allow, until we hit a dozen. (Four per gestation cycle would strike the ideal balance between fast and feasible.) I want us all to live under the same roof, in a big "mothership" that takes care of our every need. Alison would be the household COO, running admin and hou-sework, which she obviously enjoys, and I'd be CEO, overseeing our kids' education from birth. We'll wake up at 5 a.m., chug our shakes, engage in physical and mental enrichment, and get our yeeks in bed at the stroke of eight. As soon as the kids acquire language, we'll start them on an *actually useful* curriculum focused on bizdev and Stoic thought that will give them a massive edge on public-schoolers-pic-ture everyone happily sweating away at their custom desks/treadmills as they absorb meticulously curated high-quality podcasts at 2.5x spe-ed.”

Maus: A Survivor’s Tale. I, My Father Bleeds History. Art Spiegelman.
Book cover: a beige background, at the top is the name of the writer and illustrator “art spiegelman” in white, under is the name of the book “MAUS” in a red font, under it is a white circle with a swastika and the face of a antrophomorphice cat Hitler in the middle of the swastika, under there are two antrophomorphice mice, one dressed in an orange long coat and the other, being hold by the first, is dress in a dark green bedsheet, under them is the subtitle “A survivor’s tale” in red. At the bottom there is a red rectangle with the other part of the subtitle in white “my father bleed history”.StoryGraph review: “every angle of this story is too much for me, for a part the atrocities of nazism, for another the obvious abusive behavior, for another the passivity, for another the grief, this had me tensed up and unbelievably angry, too much too much”

The Tree and the Vine. Dola de Jong. Translated by Kristen Gehrman. Sapphic desire growing in the middle of a tumultuous friendship, mother-daughter in constant struggle, nazism and fanaticism.
Cover of “The Tree and the Vine” by Dola de Jong.

A red background with a pink margin at the left. Two illustrated women, in white and black, two pieces of vines in each side of them.StoryGraph review of “The Tree and the Vine”, 2.25 stars.

“ It is quite a bummer that this book came to me as a sapphic story bc the most interesting themes: fanaticism, mother-daughter relationships, parental extremism and its consequences and the horrifying genocide occurring in the background were much more interesting and important. It felt weird to read this, frankly, almost empty story about the bad friendship and subsequent push-and-pull romantic “relationship” between the narrator and Erica while the echoes of nazism reverberated in the back. I feel guilty for not liking it, but the perspective was too individual, too sheltered for me.”

Content warnings: Toxic relationships, toxic friendship. Xenophobia, antisemitism. Fatphobia, misogyny.

📚💙 currently reading “Translating Myself and Others“ by Jhumpa Lahiri. quotes that have touch me :
“I already knew that writing in a new language resembled a
sort of blindness. For to write is nothing other than to per-
ceive, observe, and visualize the world. By now I can see in Ital-
ian, but only partially. I still grope around in semi-obscurity.
Like Romano, I write with an uncertain hand.”“The notion of “graft” helps us to understand a human, uni-
versal impulse. It explains why each one of us searches for
something else, something more, and it explains how we go
about obtaining it. We can change our city, citizenship, body,
face, gender, family, religion. Through grafting, we can refute
our origins, today more than ever.

Although a graft is a natural process, it can be perceived as
forced or inauthentic. Those who undergo or enact it (even on
themselves) may be viewed with suspicion.”
