I’ve lived in Germany for 13 years, I can of course speak the language, but I’ve also set up a comfort zone of fellow English speakers, I have German friends with whom I only speak English & I look for familiar nostalgic foods. My kids also only speak English at home. What’s the difference, Mark?

What is culturally common in Germany is to turn up to work with a slight cough & be sent home immediately. It’s a whole different work culture here, you do not go to work in anyway ill out of respect for your colleague’s health & to ensure you don’t spreas your lurgy to everyone else.

The British legal system is designed in such a bizarre way for these cases that one must settle out of court, because let’s say he is suing for £1 million damages, judge finds in his favour, but awards him £500,000, he then needs to pick up the bill for coats on BOTH sides. Even though he has won.

I agree on this. Which is more of a reason to just ignore the noise, the more we highlight that ‘oh I don’t like that person he’s meeting etc’ it adds to the rhetoric. He’s not in place for a personality contest, he’s the best that was on offer, and as you said head & shoulders above the last lot.

Every year I’m astounded to see what the recycling obsessed, nature & green space loving, green man waiting Germans do for the hours leading up to and after midnight. It’s absolute insanity. The air quality on Jan 1st is always so bad you need to stay indoors. The mind boggles
