I didn’t hear much about Harris and Biden wanting to tax the rich more. I know it’s very popular. Maybe if they’d talked about it more (or actually done it) they wouldn’t have lost.

My take is Fran’s volunteers don’t trust him, so pandering to us won’t work. And flip flopping for us will lose trust with the people who do trust him. He’s in a shitty bed Evers built, and he’s gotta lie in it. (Pun intended.

If establishment Democrats would embrace as much nuance on this issue as they do on issues that benefit corporate elites, they'd find a strong and beneficial contrast with Republicans. They could run on that. But, when it comes to the needs of working class people of color, Dem's don't care.

Are movement resources disproportionately invested in elections? Absolutely. But if everyone in movement spent 10 - 20 minutes every 9-18 months casting lesser evil votes, the government would be shaped by it. Not into an actually good thing, but into a thing we have better prospects against.

Milwaukee Beagle @milwaukeebeagle.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
It’s simply not true that it will do nothing. Yes, it does less than utopian electoralists promise, but nothing? Nothing is a uniquely small quantity. At minimum more voting and engagement (esp party engagement at local levels) makes the bullshit and fixes harder to do.

It’s not the only way to prepare for resisting a trump coup, organizing community self defense is also essential, but a high margin dem victory is also important. Arguing that voting is pointless or doesn’t matter makes it easier for trump to succeed in his coup attempt. Do both.
111
Milwaukee Beagle @milwaukeebeagle.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
If you think he will do a coup, and want to prevent it, one of the best moves to prepare to win that fight is to turn out as many voters as we can against him. That will make his power grab more overt, more undeniable, harder for apathetic people to ignore.
111
Milwaukee Beagle @milwaukeebeagle.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
If trump makes moves to invalidate the election results or any shenanigans, the most important aspect of fighting back is numbers. The number of people ready and willing to resist a trump coup increases with the margin of the democratic victory in the election.
100
Milwaukee Beagle @milwaukeebeagle.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
This is not an either or situation. It’s a “both and” situation. We don’t need to debate either winning the midterms by a large margin, or preparing to resist trump’s efforts to ignore them. We need to do both.

I feel skeptical that the left has leverage to win this fight. I suspect that sunk costs are causing people to try and salvage a fight that’s going to cost a lot of good will, and reduce capacity for success in other places. Platner should all the way fuck off, and the rest of us should move on.

If we back candidates with left populist platforms and integrity, who lack media-grabbing stories, who don’t offer charisma or attention shortcuts, but aren’t carrying red flags and hiding skeletons, then we just need to work harder to make the issues central to the race. No shortcuts.
