Chap. If you wanted to buy any of my novels from some sort of book-selling place, then, OK, I wouldn't try to stop you. But I'm not going to give you links to them. It would be unseemly.

In Düsseldorf. I had a look inside. More 'Easily Pleased Shop', I reckon.

The fiercely-focussed display outside a shop that sells jeans. Out of shot, the fiercely-focussed display outside the shop nextdoor, which sells enemas.

Some people like to hang big England flags on their houses to reassure their neighbours that they draw the line at a secondary education. But this - I walked by it (bleeding briskly) in Germany yesterday - is *big* big, eh? I suppose it's easier than standing in the driveway screaming, 'AfD!' 24/7.

Right next to the friend's flat where I'm staying in Esslingen there's a church, and its bells ring every fifteen minutes - EVEN ON A SUNDAY. When it comes to illustrations pushing you to confront theodicy, clearly someone isn't afraid of being too on the nose.

Left Chiswick 6.30pm Friday and - Boom! Blink and you'll miss it! - arrived at Stuttgart 6.40pm Saturday. *Bang on* the scheduled 6.40pm. OK, the bus I have to catch on to Esslingen left at 6.39pm and runs only once an hour but, well... Nice bus stop-hot chocolate, eh? The stirrer stands up unaided.

Update: I walked to the multistorey car park, and went up and down in the lift. *That*, mofos, absolutely counts as going on a ride at Disneyland, Paris.

At Disneyland, Paris! Well, standing outside it for over two hours until my Flixbus connection to Stuttgart arrives. It's way too early in morning, I'm on 90 minutes' sleep, there's nothing to eat, or drink, no toilets nor any sort of waiting room. And it's bleeding freezing. Love, Mil: auf Urlaub.

A couple of months ago on this platform I announced the sudden loss of our hoover. And offered, with a heavy heart, the suggestion that we should not replace it. A few days later, my girlfriend bought a new hoover. For me. As 'an early birthday present'. It's my birthday today. I'm hoovering.

Dammit. I baulk at supporting single-use items, but I'll be almost entirely dead by September 2090 when I could utilise these eclipse glasses again. So - *dammit* - it appears that the only environmentally-conscious option for me now is to take up arc welding.
Disposable eyes.

The hoover broke. Fixed it with gaffer tape but that won't hold, and it's mad to buy a new one, isn't it? It'd outlive me and be anther thing for the kids to throw away. I should simply stop vacuuming now, right? That's best. Yes, I'm here rehearsing this argument before taking it to my girlfriend.

I adore mysterious doorways; all the more so when they pitch it perfectly by being just *slightly* - beckoningly - open. There's the promise of magic and adventure and new worlds beyond. The *absolute* cherry on the cake, though, is when they assure you that, additionally, there are lavatories.

A Like from @effectivealtruist.bsky.social reminds me I wrote, "If A.I. experts do ever solve the alignment problem, I have a girlfriend I want to talk to them about." Which nudges me to add, AI-wise, that my girlfriend would doubtless argue that, despite her efforts, *I* suffer from 'prompt fade'.

That image is the 'm' icon for the Minute Cryptic app. Second Born plays this, and so I had to too (to demonstrate that I'm still smarter than he is). My girlfriend also wanted to play it, so went to the store... and asks me, "Which icon is it? Is it the one that's two penises?" Paging Dr Rorschach.

"Wow - he's really aged." (My girlfriend looking at Andre Agassi on an advertising poster.) "Yeah, well, he's been with a German woman for 25 years." (Me, chancing she won't kill me; not here in Lidl.) "Chk. I bet Steffi Graf still looks good." (My girlfriend, being correct, yet proving my point.)

In the attic today I fell over an old, school exercise book from when I was 14 or 15. Seems I broke off in the midst of answering a maths question... to doodle (entirely for myself) an Evel Knievel joke that must have just occurred to me. Yet another thing to file under: 'How little I have grown.'
Evel Knievel, annoyed.

Amid the global-level shite, let no one overlook how fully human-level shite it is that Jenni Murray has died. Professionally splendid, obviously, but wonderful too as someone with whom to pop outside for a quick fag. And may I recommend her 'A History of the World in 21 Women', which made me cry.

Stopped at Green Park. The driver says over the Tannoy: "We've had a report of a passenger foaming at the mouth. Please look around and, if you see someone foaming at the mouth, notify a member of staff." Everyone in the compartment looks at everyone else. Looks *repeatedly*. Like it's The Traitors.

Long queue for the ladies toilets at the Nat Hist Museum. Terrible. It's the same everywhere. Women get to socialise, chat, and make new friends, while men just swiftly pop in, pee, and leave; all alone. Males yet again being systemically isolated by woke culture. Thanks a lot, Mary Wollstonecraft.

Retrieved this from an attic. Why did I ever put it away? (I think I also had the Wolfman, Mr Hyde, Frankenstein('s monster), the kyphosis-sufferer of Notre Dame, the Mummy, and the Phantom of the Op., but those appear to have been largely lost to time, house moves, and stupidity.) It still glows.

The loss of Sophie Kinsella is horrible and shames the universe. I frankly don't care how successful an author she was (wildly). Far more importantly, I always found Maddie just a lovely, warm person and it's simply not right or fair that she's no longer here.

Spotify's annual Stats Info Puke has told me, among other things*, that my 'Listening Age' is 21, and also that my 4th most-listened-to artist was Engelbert Humperdinck. Conclusion: young people must be weird. *Also that, in the 'Club' I belong to, 'Members insist on natural lighting.' Um... OLED?

An advert just came up in my YouTube feed: "Take a test to see if you have ADHD". I scrolled right past it. You know, 'It's funny 'cos it's true'? If only that were funny, that awful cliché would for once be correct. PS. 'Funny' is an odd word, isn't it? The more you stare at it, the odder it looks.

3/I picture them just nodding, like I've said enough - maybe too much. I'm brought back to toothpaste and the present by the sound of the front door slamming downstairs announcing that she's left, with those knickers on now, probably. Maybe I'm prone to overthinking while I'm in the bathroom. Maybe.

After all these years?' And me picking at my fingernails as I reply, 'She went to pilates.' After which, oddly,

1/I'm brushing my teeth in the bathroom and my girlfriend, in a hurry but otherwise naked, sails in and says, 'I'm going to a pilates class at the community centre.' She dances into a bra as she's heading back out, but, knickers in hand, pauses for a moment in the doorway. She turns to me, and adds,

A year. On the 18/11/24 it occurred to me that posting something every day for a year (avoiding politics, reposts, and the words 'sinecure', 'allopatric' and 'zinc') would be precisely the sort of tiny, pointless, self-inflicted, OCD exercise I can't not do. I was correct. Now I can post 'Whenever'.

The pause between the train pulling up at the station and when the light indicates you can open the door cannot be measured in time but only in the rise of fear within a human mind. The person who can wait it out fully without stabbing the unlit button with a panicking thumb has nerves of ice.

Most of my earphones beep to confirm Bluetooth. But my running earphones have this slightly creepy confirmation; like there's a somewhat sinister, 'And we both know what *that* means...' subtext. I rather approve of this sort of thing. Trains and lifts should use Vincent Price and The Hooded Claw.

The more advanced tech is, the more justified I feel hating it. When the Spectrum (look it up, kids) - after the rolling migraine stripes and the squealing cassette player (look it up, kids) - said, 'R Tape Loading Error', I was angry. But when Alexa replies badly I'm furious, and it's *personal*.
