Does anyone else think 90GW of power for AI (not to mention the cost in water and infrastructure) is asking too much? Meanwhile, affordable EVs are too power-hungry...

I'd rather eat once per month at a truly fine dining restaurant than eat multiple times per month at fast food restaurants. Typically, I spend less, and I leave the meal feeling satisfied and impressed.

How funny would it be if the French came by with a ship to carry it back to France?

Best way to eat an egg is sunny side up over toast or other grains and then popping the yolk for amazing cholesterol rich flavor!

Im cool with diversity and DEI as long as it's legit and not a stupid slide show people skip through and retry the quiz as many times as needed to pass.

I think everyone believes in free speech in the theoretical sense. However, most people don't actually follow through with it. Left, right or center. It's just too easy to want to silence people you disagree with. Whether it's nazis or groomers, using each side's terms.

millirabbit.bsky.social @millirabbit.bsky.social · 24/01/2025
The problem is the left doesn't believe it, either. Free speech is optional to both parties. The second amendment doesn't exist to the left. The fifth doesn't exist to the right. The General Welfare has been abandoned. We need to get tough and be bold. Snowflakes all around preventing discussion.

Worrying is kind of a waste of time. Just do your work. If he takes away funding, find another job. Sitting around worrying or moaning will not help you or anyone. This is a time to work so he doesn't destroy our communities.

What pisses me off is when I am trying something new and insurance demands, they send me 90 pills. Why? What if it doesn't work or if we need to increase the dose?

Iowa is no longer the state it used to be. "Be and let be" gave them gay marriage and women's rights, but over the last decade, it's become a right wing safe haven.

If anything, recent changes with corporations and government have made me want guns. I used to think we wouldn't need the Second Amendment, but I just don't trust Homan or Trump to not raid my house for disagreeing.

Solution to H1Bs: Mandate their pay be the average American salary for the position + 50%. This pays them for their role in solving urgent needs but also incentivizes companies to start training or hiring Americans for cheaper labor.

I'm not saying leaving the WHO was a good idea. Just doubting that leaving the WHO = inadequate pandemic response. Other avenues existed without it. Its still a good org.

Has the WHO actually ever helped the US or is it just us providing help for other countries? I thought our problems were primarily dealt with by the CDC.

Egg Prices Are Soaring Again. Here's Why
U.S. egg prices have soared as producers grapple with the impact of avian influenza, or bird flu, just as they did nearly two years ago. Relief may be around the corner.

I think the problem you identified is they don't read. Text-based news often provides 10x more information than video. This makes sense since videos take more time to produce and often are given time limits to wrap it up.

That painting was done by a gay man with an intolerant view of masculinity. The wigs were added to promote woke leftist transgender ideology. The forefathers couldn't draw, so they just accepted it.

I think the ban exists due to wanting to distance themselves from the Nazis. However, I think it ends up circling back anyway. People are animals and we have biases that are easy to exploit. Our best hope is that people empower themselves to think critically. Ideally, our schools would promote that.

millirabbit.bsky.social @millirabbit.bsky.social · 07/01/2025
Yep, fundamentally, people are their own problem. Regulation, ideally, nudges them toward their own best interest. However, the only true solution is being self-aware and disciplined. We can't do that for them. I discuss using environmental cues as a way to make change easier.

This is true to an extent. However, there are options to reduce this. You can follow or subscribe to specific channels. You can block certain channels. You can do something else or go somewhere else. The truth of it is that the larger social hive mind is impacted by those controls.

Social media is up to users, though. I refuse to use TikTok. I mostly stopped using FB and Twitter. Twitter and FB changed their behavior in response to users switching to Bluesky and other platforms. They are changing because they make money off your attention which you control.

Early Adopters: AI will change the world. AI: *Cold and calculated, determines perfect pricing scheme to charge rent to human beings low enough that they can barely afford it but high enough that they are essentially enslaved to their work in order to simply afford rent.

Again, I don't look at marijuana as a bad thing. But I also know it's not harmless just like anything else in life. Moderation. Marijuana used to be more harmless when it was 6% concentration. Rare cases of nausea or psychosis. At high concentrations, the rates of problems increased.

Or maybe if you talk to hundreds of people every month like I do in various places in life with various levels of wealth you start noticing what research has already proven which is marijuana can cause amotivational syndrome. It just does. Not to everyone, but even 10% would be high.

You sound like the person who actually does their research. Many people do not and it's caused harm. Hence, we need more regulation. Regulation doesn't have to be a ban, but needs to address accidental injuries in some way. I've also noticed more amotivational syndrome and depression.

Honestly, certain forms of THC need regulation. It was fine when people just smoked grass, but now there's very high concentration products that are harmful.

This is exactly what I said when ChatGPT got big. Everything in life has limits. I just don't see a machine doing the insane task of being a human being without extremely high resource needs. Do people not understand that human beings are made up of over 100 trillion connections between neurons.
