😅 with such CONSERVATIONISTS, the nature will be absolutely ruined even if not by Google and AI data centers... www.theguardian.com/environment/...
Vesa Hyyryläinen, chair of the local SLL district, said three-toed woodpeckers nesting in the forest had been pushed out. “All of us nature conservationists are very worried about our Finnish political situation and politics,” said the biologist and osprey expert. “I wonder why we have to sacrifice so much of our nature. They give everything away too easily.”

He said, however, that he understood why authorities were trying to bring in new sources of investment and jobs, given the region’s ageing population. “Young people go to Helsinki and Berlin and Paris,” he said. “There are so few people. We have to sacrifice.”

Back in 2016, Indivisible provided information and tactics that taught Americans how to make things uncomfortable for elected officials. The Indivisible Guide taught constituents to hold onto the microphone at town halls until they got an answer, and explained exactly how to get a staffer to go off-script during a phone call. It urged Americans to disrupt congressmembers’ ribbon-cutting ceremonies (“Don’t let them get photo-ops without questions about racism, authoritarianism, and corruption”), and to “barrage” them with demands until they answered.

Today, the group’s website explicitly writes that one of their core principles is “no civil disobedience.” An updated version of Indivisible’s viral 2016 handbook now simply tells Americans “while some of the original Indivisible Guide is applicable, not all of it is.”

NEW YORK — Mayor Zohran Mamdani suggested on Monday that he didn’t approve of the NYPD’s decision last week to deploy a controversial protest response unit to arrest scores of demonstrators, including several of his own political allies.

What Mamdani didn’t say: His office could have easily stopped the deployment.

Under a previously unreported directive issued by Mamdani in the early days of his administration, the NYPD must get City Hall’s permission before it sends the Strategic Response Group to conduct arrests at protests, a police department spokesperson confirmed to POLITICO.

While many claims relate to claims that Prevent is overly focused on right-wing extremism, other posts investigated by StaCU are negative about the government in different ways.

One Tweet claims that Prevent ‘closes down conversations in the classroom’ because ‘Muslim children are seen as a “threat”.’

Another X user is on the list because they alleged that Muslim children could be referred to Prevent for ‘saying Free Palestine’.

Open Rights Group, a digital rights campaigning organisation, had one of their tweets logged which said: ‘How data is managed and stored under the Prevent programme lacks transparency.’

Open Right said they were ‘deeply concerned’ about revelations their own critical posts were being stored by the government.

While Mamdani never came outside to speak with the protestors during the sit-in, he sent a staffer to talk to them at one point who told them that they had consented to working their 24-hour shifts. When these women apply to work for home care agencies, the form they must fill out asking if they are willing to work a 24-hour live-in situation. But Kim Beck, a co-leader of the Downtown Nasty Women’s Social Group, explained that if the women “don’t tick that box, then they don’t get other shifts . . . there’s really no such thing as consent.”

“Mamdani’s claim is ridiculous because it’s not about whether we agree to it, but about how it’s affecting our health,” Chan added.

Ning told NPQ that many home care workers have expressed that they feel betrayed because they supported Mamdani and even mobilized their families and friends to vote for him. “The fact that he won is, I think, because many workers thought he would be different.” Ning calls it “pretty insulting” that Mamdani sent a staffer to say that workers want to work 24-hour days.

In a fun note, Mike Elk used to email me off the clock to tell me that his girlfriend asking him to pay for his half of the abortion was the same as sexual assault, and telling me that he liked to "break evil women" like me. This was because I asked him to stop yelling at women at work.

This is from an email at least a thousand words long, sent September 9, 2014. There are more. Everybody who worked to unionize In These Times got them, and he told me that if I went public with calling him abusive, he'd falsely accuse me of being a union scab, which he did.
I am also a survivor of domestic violence. Right when I got back from Chattanooga after the loss, a woman, who was also a therapist seduced me then sexually assaulted me and hit me. I dumped after knowing her less than five days. I should have paid attention to what my health teacher said about always wearing a condom, but she told me it was fine on the disease/birth control favorite and I believed because she was a therapist. She got pregnant and forced me at the threat of having the child to pay the full 500 bill. This all occurred the weekend before labor notes. I dont know what you are dealing with and I dont want to debate union stuff, but you gaslighted the fuck out of me and called me crazy. What you didn't realize was that I was a domestic violence survivor Cole,Jessica, and Jeremy here which is why they are cced herem know what kind of feminist I am so I want you to know how badly it hurt me and how badly it amazed me that you "gaslighted" me, you someone who invented the term did it yourself. you called me the abliest slur "crazy" - gaslight, gaslight, gaslight, gaslight, gaslight SADY

But it's no coincidence that 90% of who he targets with aggressive & unrelenting behavior are women.

Moraff told me he was recruiting Bryan Pietzrak, a General Electric locomotive factory worker and UE member, to run for Congress in Erie. He said he wanted Pietrzak to run as an independent. While researching Pietrzak, Moraff found anti-Trump quotes he had given Payday and asked me to delete them.

In October of 2020, Pietrzak spoke at a Biden rally at Carrie Furnaces in Rankin, PA, where he blasted Trump at length.

“No union member should vote for Trump,” Pietzrak told Payday Report in October of 2020.

Moraff explained at length that Pietzrak’s quote against Trump could hurt his chances of appealing to Trump voters in Erie. I told him deleting a quote as a political favor would violate journalistic ethics. He insisted I do it even after I said no.

even for the second trump impeachment, which was killed by pelosi, there was no former inquiry and hearing processes, and "the public available evidence" means news reports, etc. I guess. constitution.congress.gov/browse/essay...
The second Trump impeachment occurred a year later in the waning days of the Trump presidency following the events on January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol in which some supporters of President Trump attempted to disrupt the congressional certification of the 2020 presidential election as having been won by Joseph Biden. The House moved quickly following those events. Passing on an investigation, the Judiciary Committee staff compiled publicly available evidence relating to the President’s actions on January 6 and within one week had introduced and approved a single article of impeachment charging the President with "incitement to insurrection."

it is political campaign, not just average some public communication for public interests. archive.is/202609061811...
That view was clear in the administration’s strategy surrounding the announcement in March that the McKinsey contract was being canceled. Ms. Rowland’s team wrote to hundreds of social media influencers with instructions about how to enthusiastically describe the budget savings. (Mr. Jacquez and Ms. Hughes received the guidance; Mr. Stoller did not.)
“Share a short video or post explainer on the news that, in sharp contrast with the corruption and wasteful spending of your tax dollars that Eric Adams was infamous for, the Mamdani administration found $1.7B in savings,” they wrote.
The content creators and commentators soon responded in kind, and in kind fashion.

After Trump’s departure, Mamdani was asked if he should be criticized for meeting with Trump, the reporter noting that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries took some flak for a meeting he had with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

“I committed over the course of the campaign as well as being in office that I would meet with anyone, work with anyone, that could deliver for New Yorkers. In the previous meetings I had with President Trump, we’ve been able to secure the release of a New York City college student who had been detained by ICE. We’ve been able to move forward what has been a long-standing dream about the construction of Sunnyside Yard. We have a significant way to go, but these meetings do truly assist in that path. To me, the question always is how can we deliver for the city? How can we deliver for the people of this city?” he said. “And so, having a conversation about potentially building 12,000 homes, about the importance of our Haitian neighbors here in this city, those are conversations that are worthwhile to have.”

He was asked if there were any details he could share about the state of the project, how much federal funding there could be, or what the timeline might be. Mamdani basically just responded that it was a very important priority for his administration, and he expressed his excitement over the possibility of such a “transformative” project happening.

Mamdani is continuing to speak with reporters, however.

THE RIGHT TO NOT VOTE: State Assembly candidate Conrad Blackburn boasted about not voting for the Democratic Party’s presidential candidates in either 2016 or 2024 — and called Trump’s first election “a necessary evil,” Chris reports.

Blackburn, a democratic socialist vying to unseat Assemblymember Jordan Wright in this month’s primary, made the comments in question on a Twitter account he has since restricted access to so only pre-approved followers can view his posts. Playbook was able to view his old missives via an internet archive.

Blackburn’s declaration that he didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016 or Kamala Harris in 2024 could unnerve middle-of-the-road Democrats in Wright’s deep-blue Harlem district.

But fellow progressives may also be peeved by other aspects of Blackburn’s voting record.

However, Wulfson’s case was tried at a court martial on a US airbase, despite his alleged crime taking place while he was off duty and in an English city. The proceedings followed US military law, and the offence was not charged as rape but as sexual assault and “aggravated sexual contact”.

The judge, an air force colonel, sat before an American flag. He presided over a room of people in navy-blue uniforms. The jury – who heard the case in April this year at RAF Lakenheath, the largest US base in Britain – was a panel of eight air force officers.

All were stationed on the same base as Wulfson. All were men.

“What I’m about to say may be a little sacrilegious, but working with the Hispanic Republicans of Texas, there was a point here,” DeAyala said. “We’re trying to grow the party. We are trying to bring more people in this tent.”When it comes time to vote in the midterms, Tarek Hussein plans to support his party where he feels it’s deserved.

“I will vote Republican for the good Republican candidate,” he said.

Mohamed Hussein, said the convention left himself asking questions.

“How can I possibly get behind a party that tells me to leave, that says convert or leave?” he asked. “How do they think that is going to be some kind of winning strategy?”Asked whether he would vote for Talarico, a Presbyterian theologian who frequently discusses his Christian faith on the campaign trail, Hussein said he would vote for the candidate that champions religious liberty and economic prosperity.

“I will vote along those principles, but what I saw at the convention is not conservatism, so I’m going to assess in November and vote along with my values,” he said. “Absolutely, I will be voting for Republicans who denounce this extremism.”“I’m trying to process how somebody can say this and then try to pray for me,” Hussein said.

But he said he forgave Scarborough.

Rattled by the experience, Mohamed Hussein isn’t sure what it means for his politics going forward.

“Many, many hear these things, the messaging, and think that they’re dog whistles,” Hussein said. “I was hopeful that I’d come here and get a clarification. What we got was kind of a confirmation.”

“While, philosophically, we can agree that CAIR is a terrorist organization and we would not promote them or materially help them, we’re moving the goalpost,” said Gaylyn Devine, an SREC member representing their area in Senate District 11, who defended their place at the gathering. “They followed the rules. They voted in the Republican primary. One of them has been, like, a 40-year Republican.”

Halabi, a teacher, declined to say how she would vote in November, but said that she is a Republican and always votes.

Halabi and her husband, Amjad Muhtaseb, were both registered as delegates for the convention.

Muhtaseb, an engineer and business owner, said Muslims are conservative by nature.

“We believe in Adam and Eve,” he said. “We don’t believe in this, multiple gender. We don’t drink. We don’t gamble. We are against pornography.”

They hope to bring more Muslims into the Republican Party.

The elder Hussein said he aligns with the GOP on fiscal conservatism, and opposing abortion and Obamacare. A staunch social conservative, he opposes pornography and prostitution, and even the alcohol industry.

These days, he is a father and works as a manager at a health care company.

Hussein, a religious man who prays multiple times a day, called himself a “conservative-leaning person” on economics, social and religious values, and he believes that religion has a role to play in social and public life.

Coinbase donated to President Trump's $300 million White House ballroom project as an appeal to the administration, Emilie Choi, the cryptocurrency exchange's president and COO, said at Axios' BFD event on Tuesday. The big picture: Major companies including Google, Amazon, Palantir Technologies donated to the project, which critics have argued amounts to a pay-for-play relationship with the federal government.

Driving the news: Axios' Dan Primack asked Choi whether the donation was intended "to keep good relations with the White House," to which she replied "sure."

What they're saying: "Frankly I don't even have a problem" with the donation, Choi said.

"I think if you go to D.C., there's a lot of buildings that need to be updated, and so if private industry has to do that, it is what it is."

HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) — Powerful Democratic senators are strengthening their support for Maine’s Graham Platner, whose Tuesday primary win confirms the party’s nominee in a race for incumbent Republican Susan Collins’s seat.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, affirmed their allegiance to the embattled oysterman in a late-night statement. Platner weathered a storm of scandals in the weeks leading up to his dominating victory over Governor Janet Mills, who suspended her campaign in late April.

Living in Maine, it is fascinating watching bluesky melt down over Platner. There's been almost no interest in trying to understand what is happening here, just knee jerk reactions and paroxysms of disbelief.

bluesky sometimes filled with limpwristed types that can't stand gruff and tough guy that happens to have the same political views. It might also be that the guy has more charisma than bluesky limpwristed liberals.

That support has extended behind the scenes as well. Platner was a guest at a big Khanna finance event last month in Palo Alto, according to a prominent Silicon Valley bundler who was granted anonymity to candidly discuss the campaign. Platner was a hit among the donors, the bundler said, winning people over with his personal story and acknowledging his faults.

Before being elected New York City’s comptroller in 2021, Brad Lander made a pledge: If he won, he would not — under any circumstances — run for mayor while serving as the Big Apple’s top bean counter. The comptroller job, he declared, “is too big of a factor in the lives of 9 million New Yorkers” to treat it as anything but a full-time focus.

Lander, of course, broke that commitment, as he ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2025.

I endorsed Xavier Becerra. That’s why I hope Republican Steve Hilton remains in the top two. The latest vote updates show Hilton will likely beat Steyer.

WinCast update: Hilton’s chance to advance in the CA governor’s race rose from 85% to 93% after Steyer again fell short of his needed marks on Saturday. The aggregate drops were roughly as expected, but with more vote in, uncertainty is shrinking and Hilton remains clearly favored.

the net zero goal, big techs, social media ban on minors, etc? he even has walked back the platform of elimination of filibuster, he is open to keep it now. lol static1.squarespace.com/static/6892a...
Return the Senate to majority rule. The Constitution assumes majority vote except where
supermajorities are specified. Yet the filibuster now allows a minority to block legislation
supported by most Americans. At a minimum, the Senate should return to the talking
filibuster, where senators must stand on the floor and defend their position. Furthermore,
everyone living in the United States deserves representation, including in places like
Washington DC.

When Ms. Fifield first met Mr. Platner in 2013, he was a student at George Washington University, and she was working on veterans’ issues at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and beginning to make a name for herself as a conservative activist online. Their roughly two-year, on-again, off-again relationship, as Ms. Fifield described it, was heady and passionate.

On Tuesday, Mr. Platner was asked by Democratic senators in Washington in private meetings if there was anything else controversial in his background. He assured them there was nothing, but he predicted his adversaries would lie about him, according to a person familiar with the private discussions.

On the campaign trail, Mr. Platner has consistently worked to reassure voters who have been rattled by what they have read about his messy personal history. He has said that he had not lived a “very complicated” life.

“I have a lot of ex-girlfriends,” he told voters at a town hall in late April. “They’re all still my friends.”
