It’s a trick question. Interestingly, Chat GPT answers in the passive voice.
In the song The 12 Days of Christmas, the total number of presents given is 364. This total comes from adding up all the gifts given each day, accounting for the fact that the gifts are repeated cumulatively. For example, on the first day, one gift is given, but by the twelfth day, all the gifts from the previous days are given again along with the twelfth day’s gift.

Hmm! It said I won then overwrote it with a message saying it had won...so it learnt to be a poor loser from humans perhaps? :-) I do love Nim though. Randomly reminds me of Sprouts (and even better Brussel Sprouts) as also wonderful games as learnt the maths behind them at same time (from Conway)

Safety and security day with my PGCE computing trainees today. GPT o1 has done a fine job with cracking a random substitution cipher. It shows its working.
This has been encrypted using a substitution cipher. What was the plain text
M TXPCIHIC NQPINV XR X BNQYC
SLXS JNQXSR QP LMKL Q'IH ZXNIR XPC LMNNR,
TLIP XNN XS QPBI M RXT X BHQTC,
X LQRS, QJ KQNCIP CXJJQCMNR;
AIRMCI SLI NXFI, AIPIXSL SLI SHIIR,
JNYSSIHMPK XPC CXPBMPK MP SLI AHIIWI.

BQPSMPYQYR XR SLI RSXHR SLXS RLMPI
XPC STMPFNI QP SLI OMNFV TXV,
SLIV RSHISBLIC MP PIZIH-IPCMPK NMPI
XNQPK SLI OXHKMP QJ X AXV:
SIP SLQYRXPC RXT M XS X KNXPBI,
SQRRMPK SLIMH LIXCR MP RDHMKLSNV CXPBI.Cracking the code

I’m working on a substitution cipher and using frequency analysis to figure out the most common letters and their probable substitutions. Classical techniques might simplify the puzzle.

Tracking single-letter clues

I’m mapping out the frequent single-letter word "X" in the cipher. Considering vowels and common short words, "X" likely translates to "I" or "A". Progress is steady and insightful.

Decrypting patterns

Interestingly enough, I’m piecing together puzzling patterns like punctuation and recurring sequences to decode the cipher. Progressing through contractions and guessing recognizable words, I’m narrowing down potential solutions.

Deciphering patterns

I’m examining patterns and analyzing letter frequencies to identify common words. The frequent occurrence of "SLI" might indicate "the," guiding towards deciphering the entire text.

Confirming letter codes

Mapping "SLI" to "the" and "I" to "E" is showing progress. Now I'm working through letters like "NXFI" to see if it matches "next" or similar guesses.

Weighing letter choices

I'm considering if "I" should map to "E" or another letter due to conflicts with "X" as "I" or "a". Evaluating frequent words like "the" and "and" to resolve this conflict.

Weighing options

OK, let me see. I’m adjusting my approach by exploring if "SLI" could represent "and", which changes letter mappings. This brings fresh perspectives and adds dimension to the deciphering process.

Tackling contractions

I’m piecing together how "Q'IH" could be a contraction. Considering options like "I'll" or "o'er" and testing different letter mappings for clarity. Progress is cautious but steady.

Clarifying the contraction

"I" maps to "E", "Q" to "O", and "H" to "R". This aligns with "Q'IH" being "o'er", enhancing consistency in the deciphering process.

Thought about substitution cipher decryption for 1m 24s
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
