304004 Arrives at Crewe with a service from Altrincham. A unit that will forever remind me of trips to Crewe in the 80s. Slam doors, comfortable seats, bouncy ride, a joy to behold! Gone, but not forgotten. #Class304 #Crewe #BritishRail

Great locos, I loved 417, a great nameplate.

A little bit of North Wales Regional Railways action today. It’s the mid 1990s and there’s a variety of different traction available. Pick your favourite and enjoy the ride! #Class31 #Ped #Class158 #RegionalRailways

Funnily enough, as a young apprentice I spent 6 months changing those wheel sets! The scars never heal! 🤣

If you squinted a bit, and had a few G&Ts, it could almost be a scene from the 80s! A Duff up front, and a rake of blue and grey air conditioned mark 2s in tow. The sound of a big Sulzer and the whirring of those motor alternators… #Class47 #BritishRail #York

🥶 Been there and done that too! Almost felt like a life or death situation! Managed to get into staff mess room to warm up and get a cuppa!

I do find it amazing what people know! I would never have figured that. I remember the 4 piece proper bus doors, and how much they deflected when passing trains at speed! Genuinely interesting point, as I would put the photo a bit earlier than that. Thanks Laura. 👍

Late to the party as normal! But here we have it, what an achievement, 50 years of service for the High Speed Train. It changed my life in a way I’d never have expected. A train that revolutionised UK railways. #HST #HST50 #Class43 #Class253 #Class254 #PowerCar

What an amazing story Carl! I used to love those overnights, albeit I remember almost freezing to death once! But just like you, I can’t believe my parents were okay with it! The world felt very different back then.

The early hours of the morning in the late 80s at Crewe, and the vans are being shunted around the station. The hustle and bustle of overnight activity at these major junction stations is now sadly long gone. #Class08 #Shunter #Gronk #Crewe

A rather amusing full-circle moment. With Chiltern now in the DFTO fold, they promptly inherit the Class 68s and Mk5A coaches that the same organisation, through TPE, worked so hard to get rid of. Funny how railway policy comes full circle!

Amazing isn’t it. I ride around a local nature reserve that was the open cast pit in the 80s. Some rails are still evident, but now a lot of the track bed is the cycle route. Difficult to believe the number of 56s I’d seen working up and down there.
