So, according to schema.org/artist, artists don't use pencils. "The primary artist for a work in a medium other than pencils or digital line art--for example, if the primary artwork is done in watercolors or digital paints."` Examples are from comics. I smell a nerd-driven ontology.

I have just found the most poetic little digital archive of fluxus artifacts on @are.na. The title of this board is so, so wonderful - the most perfect serious joke. If you appreciate this too, we should probably be friends. www.are.na/or-ni-tholog...

I made an automated hyper-normaliser. It produces some uncannily familiar vibes. mildlydiverting.github.io/are.na-toolk... Vibe coding means I can finally build browser toys myself! Years of discussing specs, bugs and ideas with developers is good training data for this human.

Pull images and text from are.na channels and combine them into a strangely familiar documentary critique of late capitalism. Good for full-screen ambient displays, or just staring into the void.

On Bob Dylan's birthday, a thread about the story behind the remarkable photo below: Dylan driving away from Andy Warhol's Factory with one of Warhol's Silver Elvis paintings—a painting now worth millions of dollars—on the roof of his car

Oooooh I just found a very old screenshot of the wonderful text adventure BEARS thread between @ethanmarcotte.com and @wil.to. It remains one of my favourite internet things.
@b: > GO NORTH
@w: NORTH is lousy with bears. Are you sure about NORTH?_
@b: >GO NORTH
@w: The BEARS are incredulous. One drops his salmon, as a FANCYMAN might drop a monocle. There are additional bears to the EAST and WEST._
@b: > TAKE FANCY BEAR
@w: The FANCYBEAR responds with a blustering “I say.” 7" The INCREASINGLY AGGRESSIVE BEARS tea party is ruined. The TEA is also SALMON._
@b: > INVENTORY
@w: * COMPASS (1) * SPIRAL-CUT HAM (3) * SPICE GIRLS CASETTE (1) * Despondent FANCYBEAR, twirling his LUXURIOUS MUSTACHE. (1)
@b: > THROW HAM AT RAGE BEARS
@w: BEARS are sated by the succulent HAMS —save one. YOUNG FANCYBEAR slaps you with a glove, demanding satisfaction on behalf of FANCYDAD!_
@b: > TAKE FANCY BEAR JR
@w: You have acquired REGINALD. The SMALL FANCYBEAR's name is REGINALD, it turns out. The BEARS look increasingly uneasy. They flee WEST._
@b: >LOOK
@w: There are TREES and HASTILY DISCARDED SALMON all around. You are carrying a bag of EXQUISITELY-DRESSED BEARS. You can go EAST, WEST._
@b: >GO EAST
@w: You reach the OCEAN, home to ALL MANNER OF SCARY-ASS STUFF; MOLLUSKS or WHATEVER. There is ALL MANNER OF SCARY-ASS STUFF to the EAST._
@b: >GO NORTH
@w: You wisely go NORTH. Have you seen those FISH WITH THE GLOWING HANGY-THING ON THEIR HEAD? Screw the OCEAN. Nervous bears to the WEST._
@b: >GO NORTH
@w: You are in CANADA. There is HEALTH CARE to the WEST and EAST. There is SANTA to the NORTH. The FANCYBEARS put on FANCY WINTER ATTIRE._
@b: > EXAMINE FOPPISH ATTIRE
@w: The FANCYBEARS' attire is replete with RUFFS. They have donned MORE MONOCLES. You realize BEARS lack basic understanding of clothing._
@b: > TAKE RUFF; GO NORTH
@w: You continue NORTH wearing a RESPLENDENT RUFF. REGINALD dons his LESS RESPLENDENT BACKUP RUFF. It is FESTIVE; there is a SANTA CLAUS.
@b: > THROW FANCYBEAR AT SANTA
@w: REGINALD sails majestically through the air, causing SANTA to stop mid-"ho ho ho.” REGINALD asks SANTA for a FANCYBIKE. SANTA flees.
@b: >LO…

You can say a lot of things about Euan Uglow, but one of them should absolutely be ‘Very Good At Feet.’

"Bob Neill has been typing his amazing pictures for upwards of twenty years. As a result, he has developed a method to make it possible for anyone to create typewriter art of the same quality by following his simple instructions." You, too, can make a typewriter drawing of Sandi Toksvig circa 1984!
An ascii art image of a very young Sandi Toksvig made using a typewriter. The facing page is headed Ethel from 'No. 73' and has row by row instructions for recreating the image on a typewriter, which look a little bit like a knitting pattern. No, I don't really know either, sorry.

Today I'm soft launching Mythril, a design practice investigating technology and power. Our first project, Investigative Aesthetics, is a non-exhaustive genealogy tracing the lineage of art as investigation from the 1860s to present day.

Wondering which of my friends put together a playlist called '2007: a year in music', featuring Vampire Weekend, Petra Haden, Jonathan Richmond and June Tabor, among others. Was it @yoz.bsky.social ?

It looks like the Internet Archive Book Images have all been removed from public view on Flickr. So sad - it was an extraordinary resource of free imagery. www.flickr.com/photos/inter...

Watching a rerun of Kate Bush at the BBC, and noticed that in the Wogan ‘Experiment IV’ performance, there’s a BBC B and Cub monitor on the desk. Satisfying.

With my ‘I spend a lot of time looking at representing bodies’ life drawing hat on: This is fascinating. It’s visually correct - it feels like watching gymnastics on TV, but it’s conceptually and structurally very wrong. You need both observation (seeing) and construction (knowing) working together.
