Ominous red skies last night as cyclone Vaianu’s heading to NZ. Unusual for whole North Island to be on emergency alert. Expect giant waves & coastal flooding. Too quiet atm. Hot food, shower, cold wine, laptop&phone powered. Water in buckets. (Garbage bins on the road WTF people?!) Stay safe!

Got old-fashioned mail w return ticket to Waiheke Island for a 3-week writers’ residency 🤩So glad I could shift dates to mid-term break. Writing&researching plus public talk at Waiheke library 16/4. Great to see Lily Holloway got the WWR weekend. I was a judge for Given Words in 2019 when Lily won.

Doesn’t help to be in good company when you don’t get paid for your work… I’m one of the 318 authors who did not get my Public Lending Right compensation for 2025, despite being registered. Total rip off. No wonder writers struggle to make a living
