It's not complicated, and takes 5 minutes to do. But that was too difficult I guess ;) But yes, a VM that could simply be "frozen" and backed up would be good. 010

Then I just had to create the missing partition (from the dead drive), and restore the backup. That completed with no issues :) 110

Easy enough - with a PS/2 keyboard. Which the Dell does not support. The error message arrived before the USB drivers were loaded, so you're kinda stuck... 110

I told it to copy the partition table, and copy the partitions using dd. Should be foolproof? Well, the result was bootable, but only one of the partitions were actually useable on the "clone"... 110

The Dell also doesn't have a floppy drive, and the DVD drive was dead. I thought I could write a dfsee ISO to a USB stick, but no such luck. They were not bootable... 110

Install an extra drive, create partitions with fdisk, and copy everything over (including system files) using xcopy. But... This system used lvm rather than fdisk (to support JFS partitions). And lvm will not create a bootable partition on a second drive... 110

It came with two 80GB SATA drives originally, and those drives were still running. I located a 200GB data centre SSD to replace both harddrives. But how do you copy the data from the working drive? 110
