- "AI algorithms improve due to more compute and scaling laws"

When the urge to squeeze in AI overrides UX patterns that have been thought untouchable for decades. Not even the top-right corner for user/account dropdown survived. Nothing sacred.

In these times of AI and automations, I could not not buy another mechanical film camera. It’s ~65 years old, all shutter speeds are slow, so needs some cleaning. But hey, it shoots in portrait orientation by default, right into the socials!

First time at the Speed Skating World Championship. Mixed feelings, but fun overall. Best part — and the main reason: my kid watched the Olympics for the first time, then suddenly got to see the same athletes competing live. 😍 (pic is a quiz: what’s going on?)

It's 2026 and the web is still like this:
A screenshot from Ladybird browser newsletter:

Playing the (dumb) User-Agent game
An unfortunate reality of the modern web is that many websites check your User-Agent string and serve different content (or no content at all) based on what browser they think you are. With our previous UA string, we were getting degraded UIs, "your browser is not supported" pages, network throttling, and outright HTTP 403 errors from many prominent websites.

We fixed this by adding "Chrome/140.0.0.0" (#7493) and "AppleWebKit/537.36 Safari/537.36" (#7626) to our UA string. "Ladybird" is still in there. We're not trying to hide, but we do need to play the game if we want websites to serve us their real content. This immediately unlocked modern versions of Google Search, Gmail, Instagram, and many other sites.

First in 2023, now again in 2026. Almost no training, still hit my goal, though I set the bar quite low. Trail running is cheap and fun. And it helps with your head. Go run!

when there is a list of them, it's pretty obvious as ON shines. but when it's a single one, it's quite confusing.

oh, and who needs modal close buttons, even on hover, if you can just click away... and those rounded corners 😞 For some reason, I judge IDEs as examples of what they can build. If the IDE is sloppy, it's like trying to plane wood on a crooked workbench.

Nighttime residential street scene. Brick houses line the street; one house has warm interior lights and white string lights on a second-floor balcony. Three parked cars are visible, including a white vintage station wagon and a red hatchback. Brick paving, hedges with autumn leaves, bare trees, and traffic signs are illuminated by streetlights against a dark sky.
