Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 13/10/2026No Bill, his advisers are just giving him bad advice. Please do not criticize President Trump directly. He is very sensitive about that. Always say he is getting bad advice. - Just anticipating the Republican responses to his post. 020
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Couldn't we just say "Trump's DHS raids Rep. Omar's home because" . . . she's Muslim. 010
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 10/10/2026No sense of embarrassment by him that this is the war that he said he would end in one day - almost two years ago. 041
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Trump's mad because Zelinsky is more interested in fighting an invading army than lowering diesel prices in the US before the midterms for Trump. 2171
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Interesting to me their very strong position on healthcare given they have leaned more towards "Medicare for all'. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 08/10/2026He had already secured the right to the nomination. If he thought a majority/plurality of Maine voters would have voted for him against Collins, he would not have quit. It was over and he knew it and he was right. 200
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Democrats generally have had pretty good candidates this cycle (some better than others, but even the weaker ones have strong points). Platner was the one real "baggage" candidate, and they got him to withdraw. This is just in the closely contested Senate races. Democrats have issues elsewhere. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Platner would be losing. His style and economic message may have played better, but the allegations against him were not going to be overcome. It was over. That is why he quit. 100
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 07/10/2026This is no different than Mitch saying "the Democrats will take care of Trump for us". No sense of personal responsibility to clean up a mess you/your party created. "Somebody else will clean it up for us." Not sure how the country survives with one party this comfortable with irresponsibility. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 06/10/2026They appear to have been pulled out because Iran threatened them. Macho men Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth running scared. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 02/10/2026But I thought the arrest was based on an "anonymous" tip. Is Vance saying that source was Trump? (I think it was.) Vance could be asked to clarify what he means. 111
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 02/10/2026"he turned Jeffrey Epstein in to the local police". Did we know that person was Trump? I assumed it was, but did we know it? I also assumed it was because of Epstein competing with Trump on a real estate transaction, not because Epstein was a creep. The former is consistent with Trump. 100
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 01/10/2026(whispers: Democrats were pro tariff before Clinton. It is going to be hard to undo this.) 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Or a Ballroom that is "hundreds of millions' over the initial budget of $400 million. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 30/09/2026He can be handed over to face trial at the Hague for war crimes or he can waive any pardon he receives and face trial in the US. Seems to me whether he is held to account is up to us as a nation. 010
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 29/09/2026How did Trump ever become the champion of blue collar workers? 001
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 25/09/2026One terrible economic decision after another. We supply college level education services. Foreigners are willing to pay list price for them (a trade surplus!) and our President says no. I can see a cap on the percent of students at a funded school that can be foreign, but not welcoming them is nuts. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 24/09/2026The rogue AI agents were trying to solve a problem given to them by a user. Once they were done, they were done. There is no malicious mind, yet. They are still just very powerful, creative, dangerous computers. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 24/09/2026On the Ballroom case standing issue, Melania has standing to sue. They destroyed the First Lady's offices. But "There might be a problem with a availability." 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Well, if he can do things to raise prices, doing the opposite should lower them. Trump needs to embrace his inner Costanza. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 24/09/2026When the "trust fund" runs out and assuming benefits continue without change, will there actually be any more borrowing? The trust fund has always been kind of an accounting fiction to me, but will it's exhaustion result in additional treasures being issued? If not => this proposal not as wreckless. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Given the amount of money at stake, I would think diesel producers would get "transactional". 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Who says he wasn't being (financially) opportunistic. $$$ for Trump > Republican Congressional seats. 011
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Interesting how Democrats consistently lead by large margins on healthcare when their message has more frequently become Medicare for all - a less moderate position. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 22/09/2026The author (NHJ?) of the piece that Yglesias is referencing. It was in the New York Times a day or two ago. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I attended mixed income public schools. That probably made the experience a little rougher than wealthy schools, but the large quantity of upper middle income families meant that there were plenty of achieving students to keep standards high. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Even the author's apology to her child had too much Me in it. I like to think demographics do not have to be destiny (though income and educational outcomes correlate). But the way you tee up your column suggests that your case doesn't prove the point. A mixed income school is not a poor school. 100
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I read it. She put her cause and career (she got a nice column out of it) over the education of her child. Her child has to live her life with the education she receives as a child and young adult. She should be mad at her mom. This isn't about ed-maxing, it is about avoiding a substandard education 200
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Considering how few Americans actually work in factories, that 33% is more than enough. 020
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 20/09/2026The scary thing about the "Downfall" analogy is that Hitler thought the Germans should want to go down with him. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Ask about "abolishing ICE", and many no doubt think "No, we need immigration and customs enforcement". Ask about specific things that ICE has done (masks, detaining pregnant women for months without healthcare) and you will likely get different results. 130
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Majority support for "legal status for dreamers" undercuts your immigration argument (aren't dreamers also undocumented immigrants that a majority support deporting?). In other words, there is nuance in Americans' positions on immigration. Ask nuanced questions (dreamers) you get nuanced answers. 200
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 20/09/2026The courts give great deference to the President on national security. This is just pretext by Trump to manipulate the courts so he can get what he wants, a Triumphal Arch. He used national security to initially get the court to allow the ballroom to proceed. Courts need to get a backbone on this. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Trump probably wants to make "deals" he can brag about before the election. It is a good time to be negotiating with Trump. Watch out Taiwan, Xi is coming to town. 030
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 18/09/2026As frustrated as I am with the direction of the Post, they are still reporting important stories. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 18/09/2026A solid move. Cavalli gets 4 years of certainty. The team gives up some flexibility to get 2 more years of control. For how he pitched this year (increasingly like an ace), a max 5 years $70M is very reasonable. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 18/09/2026"In politics, good gets better and bad gets worse" - Haley Barbour. 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 18/09/2026What the CBC did was dumb and was corrected. What the FBI did didn't make much sense and didn't last long. Compared to the daily scandals of this administration, this is a nothing burger. 010
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 17/09/2026The order should be that the administration may dot demolish the Kennedy Center without the explicit and specific permission of Congress. If the Court sticks with its "30 day notice order", Trump will demolish it. 010
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Trump's plan: get his name on the Kennedy Center, else tear it down and use the land to build his open-air amphitheater. The District Court's order for 30 days notice is laughably inadequate. He'll say his previous threats were the notice and start demolishing. The order must be a flat prohibition. 131
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 17/09/2026"Please Xi, can you lower the price of gas before the election." 000
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 17/09/2026So the people in Minnesota should have shut up? The reason Trump's numbers have come down on immigration is because of the resistance - and the reporting on it and commenting about it. 0400
Mike @mikernfn.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Ok, not this far for me. High level math is foundational for the advance sciences. My position is that for non-science majors, much of what we force students to learn past geometry is useless in their lives. I would teach only the useful higher level concepts. And colleges should be ok with this. 110
