Happy international cat day. This is Albert, my favorite cat. To be clear, he’s not mine, he’s my daughter’s but he lives with for quite awhile and invigorated the whole house. He’s very photogenic, naughty, sweet and snuggly! He made me feel a little bit younger!

This image was captured during a pilgrimage of sorts… to the stunning Wind River Range of Wyoming. I’d been to the winds a couple times before, both over 30 years ago. They may be my favorite backpacking location in the lower 48 states. This time I was fortunate to be joined by my amazing wife!

That's fascinating! In researching the Owyhee Canyonlands for the write-up on my website, I learned that the white striations in Chalk basin were composed of compacted marine debris (diatoms, etc) from an ancient lake bed but I hadn't heard that that area was once coastal. Thanks!

The starlink will be a nice safety feature. I found that service was poor in SC/LG but those places aren't too far from civilization compared to the Owyhee upstream from the reservoir. be safe and have a wonderful adventure!

It is really amazing!!! However, be prepared. It is really remote... most of the time, we had no cell service and no gps coverage. On one of the days we drove 12 hours, covered about 150 miles and didn't see a single person.... If you go to the Leslie Gulch/ Succor Creek areas, it is less isolated.

Recently returned from Oregon’s amazing Owyhee Canyonlands. This remote area of Oregon has some the most amazing scenery in the US. This new image is of Chalk Basin, on the Owyhee. Alternating layers of marine sediment and rhyolite/Basalt account for the stunning stratification.
