Dang, I think I'm beginning to realize what itchy linework is all about afterrr... 12 years of trying to avoid it and driving myself nuts? 🤪 #doggirl #dog #girl #cute #cartoon #doodle

Thanks again to all who liked my big-furry/big-feels board last month! Rest assured, I’ve been healing and providing myself more warmth lately. I have an adventure-comedy board sequence coming down the pike, hopefully by Christmas. Stay too—er, tuned. #dog #doggirl #cute #restaurant #doodle #cartoon

Trying a slightly more understated tone style to go with my sketchbook doodles. Tell me if it works 🙃 #banjo #kazooie #banjokazooie #gruntilda #fanart #doodle #twistending

A perk for you Bluesky users, because down with vertical tyranny! This is a kittified version of a character I wrote into an action-adventure sorta story. You can see a whole sequence of it boarded on my website. If I ever revise it again, I'll share it 🥲 #cat #girl #catgirl #cartoon #doodle #cute

I’ve uploaded a very personal, magical realism-tinged board to my website, which I wrote to process my own anxiety, uncertainty, and heartache. Thanks in advance for checking it out 💗 mikepelensky.com/storyboards #storyboard #storyartist #animation #portfolio #firstdate

Trying to nurse my confidence— and facility with my tablet— back to health. The important thing for me was to get these drawings to look convincing enough at a glance. I was struggling with this balance all year, and I know that struggle was holding me back from being productive.

Huh...ok. This is the second time a doodle of mine has been flagged by bots for naughtiness I didn't remotely intend or include. Don't get me wrong... I like it here. But who else encounters this on a regular basis?

Drew this in my sketchbook once and uncovered it recently. Cackled. Drew it again in color. #muppets #fanart #doodle #kermit #fozzie #angst

You never know when-- or how-- inspiration will strike. I recently made this extreme birthday card for my longtime friend and often collaborator, @gadworks.bsky.social. I seem to recall that he likes Donkey Kong...

Not dead! Been quietly squirreling away on personal projects, but I had to at least repost this oldie, given the day...

Aaaand one more. From the sketchbook, markered in digitally.

One more! This character has floated around between different story ideas over the years... hopefully he finds a home. Also, I am a sucker for timing big actions on twos, like the old WB animators. You don't get to smear as much, but you can see a nice, loud drawing that much longer. 👀

Got more comfortable just digitally 'skewing' stuff when I made this animation. Looking at Eddie Trigueros' animatics (among others) showed me the light. 🤩 The scribblier poses were scanned straight out of my sketchbook.

Gonna share some more old animation for lulz. First up... ...Yeah, I have no explanation for this one.

This is one of the dumbest comics I've ever written that I've ever been so amused by. Thank you for your continued patronage, folks 😌

One more for today that will probably not catch on the same... Toona is the fish on the left, and Tark is on the right. Hope to present an animatic with them before too long.

A bright yellow fish that may or may not be a tuna smiling eagerly at a resigned, embarrassed shark.

Gonna share a hidden gem of a short directed, and chiefly drawn, by Tezuka. I love how anime artists push slapstick comedy conventions in clever new directions Americans might miss. Or maybe they don't, because we've seen so much anime at this point. 😅

Nowadays, with cartoons generally being tightassed and naturalistic-- especially on the feature side-- I feel like making characters in any gender more cartoony and expressive is a moot point. But I remain defiant. Cute people can have big expressions too! (Reposting these from my dead insta.)

When screwball cartoons were back in vogue (let's say 1987-1995), it seemed women in animated movies didn't deviate much from a slim threshold of facial expression and plasticity. Which is lame, because (dated phone-gab routine aside) I find Fred Moore's animation here to be lively *and* cute...

Lastly: Sorry for disappearing for so long, friends. Social media anxiety is real...

Tied this sacrilegious Totoro doodle down using kind of an Eric Goldberg approach, reinforcing the sketch with stronger lines, which I haven't done in literally ages. How did I get so impatient? HOW?? ...Why am I asking you?

More from "Pat-Per Route." Yes... I'm the bastard who boarded this turnaround. (Continued in the reply below.) Sorry, RDK. And thank you.
