Funny thing is I live in a rural area and the consensus seems to be that IHT is a good thing overall as it means ag land is less attractive to the DFLs.

Same next door in East Sussex. Reform leader of Council saying there are no big efficiency savings to be made and basically it's business as usual.

I still have a landline because I don't always have a mobile signal. Plus I don't have a smart meter for the same reason.

Can somebody ask the Reformers what they intend to do with all this money that they will save on taxes? Stuck in an overseas trust fund so they can boast my trust is bigger than yours?

Always thought "lanyard class" was meant to be an insult to the public sector. In my experience I always associate lanyards with private sector consultancies.

A woodland fire in my area was caused by students burning their books. Such alerts are fine with me.

Hmm. I suspect there's quite alot of journalistic licence in that story.

When it originally started it was to counteract the notion that non British products were naturally superior. There was a British manufacturer that made TVs for a Japanese company and sold twice as many under the Japanese brand rather than their own even though they were identical.

I'm guessing that this idea that any organisation can't function when the Head isn't there comes from public school exceptionalism. There's no organisation that I know that didn't function better when the CEO wasn't there.

The t-shirt only refers to making plans for an unknown person called Nigel. That it refers to the execution of the leader of the Reform party is pure speculation .

Syrian Government forces were being bombed at the time by the US, Israel, France, Saudi Arabia and probably some other Gulf States as well. But yes the UK not joining in made all the difference.

Net zero is the biggest opportunity for capitalism since the industrial revolution. Most large corporations are lazy and arrogant and show no ability to take risks or innovate.

The main thing about 1976 was that it didn't rain for 6 months (Mar - Sept). It was consistently hot but not exceptionally hot and the hottest period concided with the summer holidays. So no comparison.

Again and Again. A majority of comments are personal opinions on his policy direction not on his competence. I disagreed with most of what Margaret Thatcher did but she was an effective PM.

mikeholf.bsky.social @mikeholf.bsky.social · 22/06/2026
Headlines should be Starmer resigns for absolutely no reason whatsoever. 95% of the criticism is policy decisions that people personally disagree with not whether he's competent as PM.

All the issues with social media and the the U-16s were around when I was at school at a time when some people didn't even have land lines. The ability to socialise meant the ability to have fights after school and have your property thrown on telegraph lines or on roofs.

I feel I have had a number of legitimate grievances over the years. What I have never done is throw rocks at police, set things on fire and driven people from their homes. Disgraceful article.

So when the likes of Jeremy Clarkson, Nigel Farage, James Dyson, Andrew Lloyd Weber, not to mention the NFU, say farmers should be paid more that's all fine and dandy then, but not when the Green Party say it?

This seems to have started when party leaders were chosen by the membership not the MPs. In that way you get a leader than is often not supported by a majority of that party's MPs.

Green Belt is designated to prevent the expansion or amalgamation of settlements not the inherent quality of the land itself. Green Belt often contains land of low environmental quality. On the face of it building residential property on a former landfill sounds like a bad idea.

Speaking to my local IT shop owner who had moved premises recently as to why there were so many vacancies in the town centre. He said business rates don't help but the biggest problem is unrealistic rent demands by landlords.

It's a complete myth that the Victorian's just built things. Railways, as they had compulsory purchase powers, had to go through a parliamentary procedure akin to planning. The line London to Bristol was initially rejected and had to be completely redesigned.

Since the chattering classes consider new development a "bad thing" wouldn't snobbery mean that development should be in MK and Cambridge left alone? And Bedford doesn't even get a mention.
