So, I just found out that Frank Howard never got a 6 WAR season in WAS. Looks like his lack of OF defense was the reason. Yet another LF that really should had been playing 1B, not really his fault.

Second only to Mitchell Page’s nickname for Oakland players in that era…

That was a good year for him and his usual and now very non-PC nickname. Even the radio guys would use it. Different times…

Just a note - after 1977 Carty never played in the field. No glove needed…

Yep, he sure did. Besides Fergie Rick Wise also out RBI’ed Enzo as well.

Quick Quiz : In 1971 who had more RBIs - Hernandez or Fergie Jenkins? Hint 1, Enzo had about 5x the ABs as Fergie. Hint 2, the totals are not close at all percentage wise.

At the time Jimmy Olsen wasn’t a comic I ever bought but that changed when The King came aboard.

I will probably take heat for this but Kirby’s Spider-Man never looked right to me. He drew Spidey too “solid” for my tastes without the flow and flexibility everyone gave him.

Wow, that does bring back memories. I did buy it off the stands back then but reading the stories I had a hard time differential each of the members and probably only read it once. My copy is still in some box that I haven’t looked at in over 50 years. I really need to sort out things. Cool cover.

Argh, Steve Arlin was the guy I was trying to remember but couldn’t. I did recall Mike Corkins (but probably only because of his hitting) but I knew he would not work.

Fun fact - Al Leiter was on that ‘89 NYY team and he didn’t finish his career until 2005. So John cover 1939 to 2005 for teammates.

I was thinking that but then someone should be listed in LF, maybe Kennedy after his poor play?

I’m guessing there was a typo and Penfold was actually in LF.

On the opposite end I was telling my teenage son about “Marathon Man” and the infamous dental scene and commenting on how I only watched the movie once and never again. Not it was a bad movie but due to the one scene.

As a kid for some reason I always got Kosco and Bill Sudakis mixed up. They really didn’t have a lot in common. Oh well no one is perfect.

As a kid I wasn’t really a Western comic fan but sometimes they were included in neighborhood collections I would pick up.In one collection I do remember this issue but it was in about the worse condition I have ever seen.As I was reading it the comic completely fell apart.I never got to finish it.

Of course one of the biggest faults of WAR (there are multiple ones) is also the lack of “loses”. The major reason that WAR became the standard is that it totally ignores the Koufax/Sutton dilemma which unfortunately is kinda like the old incorrect idea of making pi the whole number of three.

I do think you’re correct in thinking having Willson staying at catcher definitely hurts his offense in the long run. Instead of Murphy I should had gone with someone like Carlos Delgado.

I guess I was lucky buying my first T206s in ‘74 for only a quarter each. I picked up four for my $1 bill. My favorite being Harry (4 time HR leader) Davis. The dealer had them all loose in a shoebox.

As a kid it always bugged me that Gold Key did not put the actual issue number on the front cover. To me that made them inferior to “real” comics that put issue number on the front cover.

For basketball there is only one player that appears in all three of the following- 48B, 57T and 61F. Two hints - he is in the HOF and his initials are CB.
