fundraising now reached £270, would be great to nudge that up to £500 by Sunday! Taking it easy this week as recommended by my coach (AI!) just shortish rides of 10 miles or so on Monday, today and Friday - prioritising fresh legs for the big day Sunday ... events.parkinsons.org.uk/fundraisers/...

And today the southern loop, including the famous Crow Road, not actually as daunting as I expected. Most memorable moment though was seeing a dog on the back of a motorbike, wearing goggles and apparently just sitting on the top box ...

Today I rode the northern loop of the Parkinson's sportive, 86 km in all, and feeling back to full health since that flu episode a few weeks back! Lovely ride, now looking forward to riding the southern loop next week - with the toughest climb over the Crow Road - then the full route on the 30th ...

Another increment! 13 mls this morning twice round a local route with useful climbing, followed after an early lunch with 26 miles in a big loop that takes in the Falkland - Lomond Hill climb, same as Friday. Feels good, helped by a lovely, mostly sunny day with just a faint breeze!

Yesterday a step up, my favourite local climb over to Falkland then up Lomond Hill, 725 ft at average 7%, maxing over 12%, 22min52s matched my previous best. Still didn't feel back to full health, but times were OK, total 26 mls into a 20 mph headwind all the way home. What's next? Stay tuned ...

Successful visit yesterday to have my new road bike shoes (present from my partner - she's also an avid cyclist) set up by Shahbaz, our amazing bike-fitter at the Velosseum in Falkirk. Had no idea how much time, science and artistry is involved in getting the cleats in exactly the right position!

Laid low by flu last week, now just starting my build-up to Pedal Trossachs 2026, a cycle 'sportive' run by and in aid of Parkinson's UK on 30th August. I've picked the 100-mile route that includes two famous climbs from the World Cycling Championships 2023, namely Crow Road and the Duke's Pass.
