Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 07/08/2026Building some greenfield things and no Next.js, it’s been absolutely delightful 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 05/08/2026I would imagine this pattern would not be super stable for touch devices but I am backing that up with 0% evidence 001
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 14/06/2026Nagelsmann’s Germany. Vividly recalling @jonmackenzie.bsky.social videos where we draw 2 imaginary lines on the pitch 010
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 26/05/2026Imagine if Limp Bizkit had been given a James Bond film instead whatever the movie was 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 06/05/2026Hellscape aside, the "Oh well looks like I'll go and be a {insert manual trade here}" discourse must be a wee bit insulting to people who work in those trades. Just because it doesn't involve a computer, doesn't mean it's so easy anyone can do it. 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 04/05/2026Having a go at migrating a Next.js side project to TanStack Start. Relatively painless but my gosh there's a lot of filesystem noise for Start/Vite projects, further exacerbated by Tailwind 😩 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 29/04/2026Hi Lou, here's the last 2 I needed to override: github.com/withastro/as... github.com/mikefrancis/... 120
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 27/04/2026I really like @astro.build, but it feels like every week I have to override another vulnerable dependency 😔 Really hoping it's the recent uptick in supply chain attacks contributing here rather than joining Cloudflare 100
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 22/04/202610 years since I ran the London Marathon. Still think about when I was very close to giving up and a rando in the crow who shouted, "Mike you're making this look easy!". I don't think that person will ever know how important those words were to me! 010
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 21/04/2026what's the German word for finding out that 6 years ago, a 15th anniversary edition of an album you originally bought came out and now you feel old af 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 21/04/2026Age verification stuff surely can't be that complicated. If I have been a paying customer for 18+ years then surely you don't need to verify my age, right? 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 14/04/2026I’ll check it out man, I’m sure this is just me being a grumpy old bastard 010
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 10/04/2026Am I extremely uncultured (yes) but is Angine de Poitrine basically Lightning Bolt but arguably not as good and 20 years later? 100
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 10/03/2026Today, in sub genres I never knew I needed so badly in my life: open.spotify.com/playlist/37i...open.spotify.comRally House 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 10/02/2026Does anyone know if it's possible to tell Spotify to only shuffle playlists and *not* albums? 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 14/08/2025Just tried a fresh project that was deployed on Vercel and it failed, probably due to adapters so was kinda expecting it. Any compatibility would be amazing! 110

Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 17/07/2025Surely carter vs that front line is a bit too cavalier for this game? 020
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 06/07/2025The defence all looked bang out of form, especially the full backs. I think we’ll see opposition teams targeting these areas. Fingers crossed the team grows into the tournament 🤞 000

Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 28/06/2025Trying to hide my bitterness at not being at a music festival by watching it and declaring it unconsensual instrumentality AMA 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 11/06/2025Just bought the original Final Fantasy 7 for my 5th console AMA 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 09/05/2025Very nice! Why 2 packets of strings though? Darkglass electronics are the nooch, I've got a Microtubes X and it makes such a disgusting noise. 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 01/05/2025I'm in Leeds today for a completely different reason, if you get free time drop me a message man! 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 01/05/2025Using bun in prod on a small, non-customer facing app. Holy smokes it's fast. It's 80 LoC with 100% test coverage and the CI completes in ~7s 🤯 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 24/04/2025I thought there were only positive hnnnnngggs! Fantastic work Bruno, it’s a thing of beauty 110
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 31/03/2025Slightly frustrating that Bun has no linter/formatter. Yes, there's Biome but I am not switching away from Node where I have a formatter set up, to set up another formatter. Deno _has_ a formatter but not too keen on the Postgres performance compared to Bun. Guess I'll stick with Node then 😒 010
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 27/03/2025Had to post this somewhere as I'm mega proud. Back in September I weighed 87kg - heaviest I've ever been. Wanting to arrest the slump I made a few tweaks to my diet and eating habits, and am now 77kg. I've set myself the goal of getting to 75kg so that I can start strength training again. 100
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 17/03/2025The parallel/intercepting routes functionality in Next.js definitely needs bottoming out from a docs PoV but just made the best bit of UI I've ever made using it 😍 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 09/03/2025I’ve mentioned this to 3 people today who don’t code and they are with us 🤜🤛 000
Mike @mikefrancis.dev · 08/03/2025TL;DR - vitest is the nooch. Got a hella small TypeScript repo which I wanted to add some testing to. Trying to add jest was a bloody nightmare, saw a SO thread suggesting vitest and it just works. No config. No setup. Awesome. 230
